What do you prefer?

Hey guys,

Just curious what do you prefer to move around and travel, a briefcase or a backpack?

I'm considering getting something new for traveling and I'm stuck on the endless dilemma. I travel fairly light with the basics, Passport, iPad, AirPods and accessories plus my carry on luggage.

What do you guys recommend, looking at Montblanc and Tumi for both options.

Thanks!

What do you prefer?

Carry an old RL Polo soft messenger bag with tons of pockets. Thing will outlive me and is super practical. Works in just about any activity. Laptop pocket and another zip pocket on the back. Has a shoulder strap but never used it.

It depends what I’m hauling. When I travel for vacation and all I have is my wLlet, phone, iPad and sunglasses etc., I use a smaller sized Tumi messenger bag.

For work trips it’s always a carry on and briefcase.

Tumi leather backpack. Great for airports and long walks from distant parking areas. Can fit two laptops, notebooks, records, and still have pockets for small accessories and phone kit.

For travel, definitely a backpack..

For daily use, a briefcase without the shoulder strap. This way my suit jacket isn't ruined, and I think it looks more put together.

Messenger bag for work.

For now, I use a briefcase to carry my stuff for guitar lessons.

For heavier stuff a backpack/bookbag is better, but at this stage of the game, I don't need one.

First, TUMI

Second, it depends on the situation. If I am going to my home office, then definitely a (the) Tumi leather Alpha 2 backpack. It holds more then you need, including a padded laptop case, and is easy to carry around. However, if you are entering a clients office, or a meeting in which you are going to make a statement, then a nice briefcase is the answer. I have the Tumi Coleford (carbon fiber) briefcase. Maybe it sounds shallow, but I want to feel good and confident when I am entering a business meeting looking for results, and a nice briefcase helps.

Neither. I use a small canvas duffel bag I purchased from J Crew. Has a convenient place for a pass port. I use it as a personal item and put it under the seat. It's very retro looking and I like it a lot. Very well made. We travel a lot, every other week or so and rarely take anything other than a personal item. I'm not a back pack kind of guy and would never use one.

For traveling with my iPad, kindle, headphones, and a few small accessories I opt for my LV messenger bag. It’s small and light. When I’m traveling with the family I bring my bigger Swiss army backpack.

I use a Swiss Army Backpack. Great protection for my laptop, and enough room for the other gadgets with space to spare.

My trusty Saddleback. Shoulder straps included turn it into a back pack if wanted. Holds an amazing amount of stuff.

Have LV, did Tumi which is great, TravelPro... yet must say the Swiss Army backpack gets the living sh*t beaten out of it. Snow, rain, too many travel hops over the the past few years to count. Solid build, rain is no biggie, and handles some good weight if/when needed. Plenty of pockets too, plus side webbing for drinks, pens, etc. Added benefit, doesn't draw attention like designer items. Love my LV, Tumi rocked, yet the Swiss Army gets my vote. Also has good back ventilation.

I've been a bag addict my whole life. Have owned so many Tumi's that I can't count, both briefs and backpacks. I've had custom bags, leather bags, messenger bags, you name it. Approx 18 month ago, I bought a Filson 24 Hr Tin Brief. I upgraded to the the bridle leather shoulder strap, and I haven't looked at another bag since. It handles everyday office duty as well as one overnight. It's fantastic.

I recently added the 48 hour duffle as well and it's great for multi-day trips.
