Icon10 I ordered a Sea-Dweller!

Hi everyone, thanks so much for responding to all my posts with my questions. Thanks to your great advice I settled on the perfect watch for me and ordered it yesterday!

I have two ADs in my area: Mayors (a 26 store chain) and Weston Jewelers (an independent). The day I called Weston Jewelers, Ed the owner happened to answer the phone. I was incredibly impressed with everything he said.

You guys always talk about building relationships with your AD and that is what it felt like to me. I called to ask if they had a Sea-Dweller in stock (you always have to ask! LOL!) and we ended up spending over an hour on the phone talking about Rolex's history, Ed's personal connection to the brand, Rolex's branding (I'm in the ad agency business), other luxury brands, other watch brands, etc.

One of my biggest concerns was that Mayors automatically doubles the Rolex warranty to 10 years. Ed told me that Weston Jewelers does it well. And, the best part is that they have their own Rolex-certified master technician in-house. So on years 6-10, the watch doesn't get sent out to a third party. They do all the work themselves.

So, I stopped over yesterday and gave him 70% down payment to place the order (like you guys say, money talks!). He said he's committing to 60 day delivery and that it might even be earlier.

I'll definitely post pics when I get the watch. Thanks again guys for all your advice. I'm so excited!!!!!!

Jose

Great stuff, 60 days would be quite amazing!! I doubt that they can service a Sea Dweller in-house though. Specialist equipment is required for the depth testing so even with a trained technician on-site, I'd be surprised if they can test a watch to those depths.

But, you can't go wrong with a SD :-)

I’m still trying to figure out how all of this works. I called ADs regarding the SD43 yesterday in the Atlanta area. They said their lists are closed and they might only get 2-3 watches per year. Im new to Rolex so I don’t know how Rolex works but I was expecting to get news such as yours, that it would be a few months before getting a watch. Instead, these ADs said it’s almost impossible to get this watch in the next several years. Do I need to offer up 70%?

Hey Jose, excellent choice! Did a similar special order at my AD in Portsmouth, NH - they received my SD43 just 15 days later. Hope it works out the same for you.

That’s a good move if you won’t miss the 70% down. I will be watching closely to see if they can get the watch that soon. 60 days is nothing to wait and would not bother me putting that much of a deposit down if they can get the watch that soon.

I just picked one up from the probably the same Atlanta AD you called (B&C) yesterday and is all I did was stop in and give them my contact information in February. But I think that was important that I indeed stopped in and talked to them for awhile as opposed to just calling them. I will say that I do have a long relationship with that AD though however not the sales person.

Yes I was very surprised when I got the call but I didn't need to put down a deposit.

If possible, find an AD who'll accept a special order. Mine required 50% down, but it'll likely eliminate their BS lists, as far as you're concerned. My AD's initial estimate was 45 days, but they received the SD43 in 15. My AD is family-owned, and has one store in NH, and two in Maine - i.e. they're not some huge conglomerate, who cares little for individual customers. Find an independent AD, and visit in person.

Yes, I did call them yesterday and spoke to them for a good period of time albeit over the phone. Maybe I’ll stop by as well. I think not having done business with them in the past isn’t working in my favor either.
I did go in and visit the other AD in Alpharetta a couple days ago and spoke to the sales person for about 30 mins.. Maybe it’s persistence and continuing to visit and express interest. I might still offer up 50-70% to see where it gets me.

I would bet you will get it in less than 60 days. My A.D. had mine in less than three weeks, but he did tell me that some dealers get less than 2 to 3 a year. It is my favorite out of the bunch.

I picked up the sea dweller 43mm ref 126600 last week and you will love it. My amazing wife actually got on the list with our regular AD without me knowing so I technically didn’t have any waiting time at all haha

I truly believe I got lucky with this pickup but also believe that an in store visit and history worked in my favor. I picked this one up from B&C Alpharetta so you might want to also try the B&C Buckhead as they have not gotten one this year yet from my understanding.

I had visited about 6 ADs in NJ and even put a deposit in one place got on a list in another that I have done business with and even spoke to the owner. Some wouldn’t put me on a list. I then called another 7 or 8 in the wider area and was discouraged until the last one said he’d take my name and that I should feel free to check in frequently. He didn’t say anything about a list and that guy called me a week later and told me he will have one for me the following week.
All I can say is stay persistent because you never know.

Ordered mine last week and they said 4-6 weeks and only wanted 20% down. He showed me one he had just gotten in that was for another customer that was picking it up later that day and said it arrived 4 weeks after order.
