Couldn't Pull the Trigger
Man, I want the sub date in a bad way. So today my wife and I are shopping and we stop into the local AD. She is all about a Datejust and the Platnium YM. I put the sub on my wrist and she loves it. She is telling me to get it now. GET IT NOW!! But I just couldn't do it. I don't think I need to go into debt for a watch no matter how great it is, so it stayed at the AD. I am trying to sell a few guns to fund my new hobby so hopefully it won't be long.

It's too late, your infected. You will find a way. You won't be able to get it out of your mind until you do. Then the first thing you have to do after it's on your wrist is "Post a Picture of it" Hopefully by tomorrow at the latest

As much as I love my Rolex I would neither go into debt nor sell any guns to get a watch.

I know where you are coming from about the guns, but with my schedule and 2 young girls I don't have much time to get out and shoot and I would be able to use and enjoy this watch every day instead of having the guns just sit in the safe.

For many of us, sacrifices have to be made for the things we want more. If you want the watch then something has to go. Good luck.

Wise thinking. Too many on the other side trying to unload their watches because of debt.

Very wise decision. Move something out to fund the Sub Date.

I am going through exactly the same thing.
Last weekend put the watch on my wrist, but left the store. All this past week, I came here to learn about these fine watches. Went back to AD today, armed with knowledge, he flatly denied moving even a dollar on the price, I walked away, and will keep up the search. Plus have been considering selling a few items (guns included) to fund the new obsession. All in due time, I tell myself. And I will know when the moment is 'right'. |

Brandon, I think you have the right perspective in thinning out one hobby to fund another.
Not knowing much about gun prices, how many would have to go to buy the Rolex?

You will get one when you are ready. Patients is difficult but necessary at times. Good call. I've been wanting to buy another one for a while but haven't pulled the trigger because I've got enough for now...but there's nothing wrong with dreaming. Good luck.

Good choice to wait. I agree with not going into dept to buy a watch.
If you wait, you will appreciate it that much more when you get it. I had to wait soooooooo long to save up for a DD and it was well worth the wait. A good watch will be with you forever, and probably with whoever you pass it down to, so waiting another few weeks or month is worth it. (howeverif you are like me, it is difficult to wait.) |

NOT going into debt for a Rolex and waiting until you have the funds will make the purchase much more enjoyable. Good for you, very smart. dP

There are so many great deals in this forum it is unreal. You did the right thing to wait a bit but you should give the "for sale" section a chance for a better deal. Good luck.

Hi,
There is another thread........LV Sub 20% discount AND 0% finance. This is a no-brainer for me. 2 years at 0% equals AT LEAST 2 price rises,so saving up makes no sense to me. Just MHO Regards Mike. |

if your gun collection looks like this, you shouldn't have to worry about the discount on any Rolex. (BTW, this is Charlton Heston's basement.)
