red sub dial vs service red sub dial.

I wanted to get opinions hopefully from savvy collectors:

I have found a Rolex red sub for sell with a service dial. The service dial does have the red SUBMARINER on it with tritium markers, and because it is new(er) the red is very bright, which is nice, the dial looks new, and it is sold by a Rolex dealer, so no issue as far as authenticity.

My question is: is it less valuable and if so by how much? from a similar condtion sub with the original dial.

Yes, watches with service dials are less valuable (not sure of the difference because subs aren't my thing)

I’m not sure there is a red tritium service dial for the 1680, though happy to stand corrected.

There are red luminova dials, some of which are marked T < 25 as if they are tritium but the markers are actually luminova. I would recommend checking with the seller if this is the case here.

Now that you mention it, I remember once reading the same thing. They are lumina dials. Thanks, now I have my answer.

I believe there is tritium service red sub dial. Extremely rare and very expensive. Unless it’s authenticated by members here, I would approach with extreme caution.

I’d love to have a luminova service dial for my 1680. I’d put luminova hands and pearl in The old insert too- modern convenience on the vintage cool.

I was unable to find one a couple years ago when I restored mine (has a mark I white dial now) and I’ve not seen one since.

The are impossible to find now sadly, I wouldnt mine one myself. I feel like the sun set on these dials a year or so ago

I had one a few years ago. The hands were service hands. It did make the dial look a bit weird, overall i would rather pay a for a matching set rather than the discount of service hands

Here's a good thread about a red 1680 service dial, but not tritium. There's a photo toward the end of the thread of a red luminova dial that is marked with the "T," as happened for a short time.
