New Arrival - Sea Dweller 116600

Greetings Forum Members!

Just took delivery of my SD 4k yesterday and quite pleased with the model!

I was looking for something special, that stood out from the rest of the model line, and the 4k was suggested by my son as a future classic. His rational was that the model 116600 was the last last of a long run of 40mm sized models, 2.5 year model run, etc.

For once, I took his advice and went for the watch pictured below.

Gorgeous. Is the SD basically a larger Sub? They look a lot alike!

Nice pickup! The SD4K has narrower lugs, reminiscent of the 5-digit models. It also has a 4,000 ft depth rating, a helium escape valve, no cyclops, a different bezel, a matte dial vs glossy on the sub, a thicker engraved case back, a thicker case and a dive link extension. Other than that, it looks very much like a sub.

Same movement I believe with a larger case, helium escape valve and no cyclops on the face. Watch is also thicker at 15mm versus the 13.5 for the Sub I believe.

From what I understand the similarity with the Sub did not give it much attention from a sales perspective resulting in the discontinuation of the SD 4k and the revamp resulting in the current model.

Lot's of discussion about whether or not this particular model is the last true SD. My son he suspects that the Sub is next for a refurb and bigger size next year, but with Rolex who knows.

I have a smaller wrist and prefer the 40mm size so that is why I went for the SD 4k.

Came with all the goodies...

Congrats! Just FYI, if you have a hard time getting a good fit, then you might start by removing the diver's extension. My wrist measures right at 7.5 inches and removing the extension coupled with the Glide-Lock clasp resulted in a perfect fit for me with my SD4K.
