Considering my first AP
Hi all,
As the title suggests, I'm considering buying my first AP and would love any input. My current and only watch is my Omega Seamaster PO. I'm not looking to get rid of it as I love it for everyday wear as well as wearing around the water and diving. However, I love everything about AP (design, history, quality, etc.) Currently I am trying to decide which AP to buy and I have it down to these three below (note: none of these photos are mine): Obviously there is about a $5k spread on the price tag which is worth considering. My issue with the diver at the moment is the fact AP is still using rubber crowns on it which i have heard that they wear down over time and I would really like this watch to look great for years to come. Any news on them releasing ceramic crowns like they have for so many other models? Given I already have a sporty Omega, this makes me lean towards the 15400 as it is iconic and would be easier to dress up vs my omega or other options. I'm also considering purchasing these in a "mint" condition (6 months old or less) with a warranty. Can anyone share any details regarding the 3-year warranty extension? Any advice or comments would be much appreciated! Last edited by PADI_Diver; 3 May 2018 at 09:46 AM.. Reason: Had to add detail regarding 3 year warranty question. |

Then its quite obvious the 15400 is for you. The rubberised crown for diver shouldnt be a concern, it would last years and even if it does wear out which I have never heard any such case for the watch that has been out some 8 years (maybe more if earlier models used the rubber on crowns), it can easily be replaced at a small cost likely. Good thing about the white 15400, its the more easily obtained of the ROs.

15400 seems like the best choice for you.

15400 is the most versatile out of the three, i would choose that one provided your wrist is not too small.

I may be a bit biased but I think the overall “best choice” for the first AP is Royal Oak line. The 15400 is still attainable and can be sourced. Cheers!

The ROO Elephant is nice too.. Pair it with a bracelet and it is a solid watch..

But to answer the question, is it big? Yes, it’s bigger than a typical watch of the same nature but the majority of time it’s fits fine on my wrist and lug to lug is actually closer filling out my wrist in person than pictures. However, I am considering the 15300 or 15202, but I’m pretty happy with this at the moment. |

All great choices. As you already have your PO as a sporty piece, the 15400 gives you something a little more dressy to balance out the collection.
I would also strongly consider just replacing the PO with an RO Diver tho. |

15400. The bracelet alone is what sets it apart!

As above even though I went the other way! I’d get the RO first and then add a ROO.
The SS finish and bracelet is sublime on the RO and it covers more bases then the ROO so you could get away with if being your only watch once you realose the PO never gets any wrist time so trade it in towards a ROO |
