Everybody Needs a DJ?
I have a watch buddy who always says “everybody needs a DJ in their collection.” I’ve never seriously considered one until I saw the new rhodium dial DJ41 on a jubilee in person.
Wow is it a stunner! Do you believe every collection needs a DJ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Absolutely not. It's still ingrained in my mind that this is a watch for 'older gentleman'.
If I'm being honest, I don't know a single person with what I consider a 'nice' collection who DOES have a Datejust in it. |

My dj is what started this madness for me and it was a gift so I can never part with it. So yes, my dj is a must for my collection and only watch that I will never consider selling.

I guess I must be an "older gentleman" and my collection must not be 'nice'. It surprises me that the DJ takes such abuse on TRF.

Consisting of Rolex, Patek, AP, Lange, Vacheron..........and not just speaking of something ridiiculous such as Tourbillons and Minute Repeaters. The majority of them all agree with me, DJ doesn't do anything for them.
I don't really know a single guy with a Datejust other than more 'acquaintances' who claim to be 'Rolex guys' and practically only have pieces from Rolex in their collection. Not saying that insultingly whatsoever, just something I've observed. I believe it's because when one branches out to other brands, there's a ton of other options to discover, that one would rather purchase over a Datejust. You're misconstruing what I said. |

Haha, perhaps
Again, I was in no way intending to degrade a DJ or sound as if they're beneath me. I just don't really see the appeal. I like them on women though, the jubilee + fluted combo catches the light and looks great. However, not for myself, would 100x over rather purchase a Royal Oak if I were going for that effect. |

I say "needs" somewhat sarcastically. Just trying to gauge where most people stand on the DJ I guess. Everyone's collection comes together differently. I kind of agree with dmash with respect to other brands. Having a few Rolexes, I am starting to get the itch for some other brands as well as another Rolex or two. The new JLC Master Control Chronograph and a Panerai Luminor being the ones calling my name the loudest.
I do like the idea of mixing it up and adding something on a jubilee bracelet though. Totally different look. |

Also, I haven't seen many on here, but the new Omega Constellation Globemaster is definitely one to consider. Similar to the DJ.

In my view the only watch needed in a collection, is a watch the owner loves and enjoys. Rolex or Timex.

Depending how big the collection is and if there's any focus. I could see this as a yes or no. Collecting divers, no, getting each Rolex of the year/widest possible options yes. You decided. To me a simple 36mm in blue or black could make it in the 5th+ round...

I really like the DJ, especially the new slate dial with green Roman numerals.
There are very few Rolex models I wouldn’t add to my collection. |

For a long while I didn't think a DJ was needed in my collection, but I changed my mind about 3 years ago when I decided I needed a dressy Rolex. So I got myself a silver dial DJ2 with fluted bezel and use it whenever I have a formal function to attend.

ABSOLUTELY! It has become my favorite Rolex. The Dj41 is the most comfortable watch I’ve ever owned.

Personally, the Datejust is what got me hooked into Rolex. I just think it's such a beautiful watch, and so iconic. I'm the proud owner of a DJ41 (blue dial, fluted bezel, oyster bracelet). I also have a GMT, but the Datejust is what I initially fell in love with.

I agree with your buddy. Love my Rhodium, Fluted with Jubilee. Most beautiful Rolex in my opinion. And extremely comfortable.
