AP durability

Question for those more experienced than myself. How has the durability been for your AP watches?

Reason I ask is that owning three AP now they have literally all had to be sent in for service under 2 years from new for repairs. Just got my 2nd diver which was a "J" serial number and it has stopped functioning now !! If I pull out the crown and screw it back in the watch will work for anywhere from 5sec to 5 hours. Otherwise dead to the world. I do not abuse my watches at all.

Just getting annoying as I really do love the watches however getting tired of losing them for a month + while they get warranty repairs. I know it is nothing like others like Patek or L&S which wait 6-9+ months. I love my AP over Rolex and other brands but as much as I hate to admit it the Rolex I have never had a problem with yet other than service required by age.

What's your experiences ?

Cheers

I’ve bought 4 APs, all brand new from AD. No issues except after nearly 5 years of owning my RGRC there was a problem with the date wheel but this was put right with a service that was due anyway.

If you’re careful, as you say, then I think you’ve been very unlucky.

Don’t own any. But I’ve heard some people have zero problems and also have ha d a friend complain about his nightmare experience - where they finally had to replace the whole movement in his roc dual time - but it took a boat load of complaints, time and stress. I think you could get lucky or unlucky. My fear is getting unlucky, so I decided not to purchase a watch from the brand has much has I like them.

Well am thinking of letting go of my ce diver as when I change the time after some time in the bank, the crown turns ok for maybe 16 hours, then becomes very hard to turn, so much that I don’t insist being scared to break something. The ceramic case cracked on the same watch, with zero shock, so kind of getting tired, and in France we say if you have something twice, good or bad, you’ll have a third time, so really thinking of making a service and selling it, love the watch but tired of it having issues, maybe that’s gonna be the end, maybe not, I don’t expect méchanichal watches to never have issues, but twice in 3 years? Case and movement...

Its very hard to gauge durability from a forum as have been explained before. Only those who had issues, the disgruntled etc will post. The silent happy majority don't. In general we are talking about very high quality workmanship in these forums whether Rolex, AP, PP etc..so I am afraid the issues being raised are generally not systemic to make any conclusions on a watch/brand's durability. The confidence of the manufaturers is also high with Rolex and AP giving 5 years warranty. Fortunately, the OP can get his repaired under warranty, and even have a few more years after that to see if issue persists or not.
