OPINIONS WANTED: Seiko SPB047
I don’t own a Seiko but have admired them from afar for a while. One of my problems was that I never had the opportunity to see one in person at home, other than the various and ubiquitous quartz pieces they churn out. I have managed to handle some GS pieces whilst out in Australia and Japan but have had no similar opportunity closer to home. Then, whilst looking at the Seiko website last week I find out that amazingly there is a Seiko boutique in London only miles from where I live. I can’t believe I missed it!
So I contacted them to check that they have the SPB047 in stock, which they do and I’m planning to check it out on Thursday. The photos I’ve seen online look great and I’m wondering if they don’t do the enamel dial justice - they tend to look best in person. I’m also slightly concerned about the 40.5mm diameter. Although that makes it slightly larger and slightly smaller than my two largest watches - a GMC Master II and a Speedmaster respectively - neither of those is a dress watch. So although I’m going to see the watch and make up my mind soon enough (and probably buy it on impulse because I can’t help myself) I wonder if anybody here has handled one, or even better actually owns one. I’d love to know what you think. |

Yes that looks beautiful too. But I really want a white-dialled, black strap dress watch as it fits a gap in my collection (I already have a blue dialled dress watch which I love). I can't really justify spending the amounts I spend on sports watches because I don't get dressed up very often. So this Seiko seems to fit the bill..

The Presage line is very well-executed and competes well with Swiss offerings in the 1-3K range. While I have not experienced this model, my advice would always be to try on a Presage to ensure a good fit. I have three JDM Seikos at 40.5mm, but they don't all fit the same, but instead have variances based on factors like the lug-to-lug, curvature of the case, and my wrist itself. One model almost overlaps my wrist but it is 40.5mm like the others, which fit much better in terms of my wrist dimensions.
