Where's my 9 o'clock marker?

.... yes of course I know where it is. This happened while driving yesterday. Immediately after the pic I stopped the movement and it has been sitting.

Soooo. What would you all do? I have a Rolex dealer in town with a certified watchmaker there. Should I have him just re-cement the marker or is this the perfect opportunity for a cooler dial (wide boy vs two tone with yellow gold markers)?

Also anybody have experience with this? I read one thread where it was re-cemented for $45.

OUCH! A fine and classy piece. If it hasn't been serviced recently, then I'd go for the whole enchilada, probably with your local watchmaker if their authorized and you like their work.

Would swapping for a wide boy dial be considered faux pas in this situation?

my humble preference and I think a lot of folks here would advise you to leave your Rolex stock. If another variation on a theme strikes your fancy ....then save for and make that a separate purchase.

Yes, it's a clockwork synergy perlon. I have 3 of them (grey, blue, green).

very cool, thanks! Good luck with your date-just. I have a vintage airking that I have ...a dizzying array of alternate bracelets and strap combinations for. However, I clearly need to investigate adding one of these!

Changing the dials on DJs was practically a national sport back in the day, no one cared. Rolex were just watches and people did what they wanted and dealers did whatever you wanted done. Rolex didn't achieve semi-religious status until the last 15 years or so.

The influx of new collectors had to try to make sense of the crazy so the originality fetish was born but in reality is there is almost no chance any 50-60 year old Rolex is as it was when it left the mothership. Even Rolex service would put a different dial on it and will to this day.

Look at the OP's watch, the date wheel is white, a champagne dial will have a gold date wheel from the factory. That is a sure sign that watch has had a sloppy dial change. Someone didn't want to spend the money for a matching wheel.

Use original dials, hands and wheels and you'll be fine.

I agree with everything Richard has said. Make the change and you'll be surprised how stunning that DJ will become.

Lastly, why repair a dial that has already demonstrated it is falling apart?

First class dials on ebay and instagram has a nice selection or just keep checking Ebay.

They seemed to be the most legit, just wasn't sure if there were others, and theirs is one I missed out on. Although it was a good price it didn't have the foot on the back of the dial so it may have been a headache. I'll just keep with them! Thanks!

Just an update for everybody as I picked up my watch today.

I have been a bit too busy to find a new dial, so the watchmaker at the local Rolex AD recemented the 9 o'clock marker, replaced the gaskets and tested all for $35.

So if this happens to you, don't lose your marbles, it's an easy fix.

Only, perhaps, in NYC.. and it seems you lucked out for the repair, gaskets etal... for that price, I'd do it.!!

Not NYC actually. My location is a bit misleading (I am headed in that direction). But this actually happened in Louisiana (Not New Orleans or Baton Rouge either).
