looking for a new Rolex any ideas?
I currently own a sub 16800 and a 114060 no date sub. I want steel sports. I travel, dive, and work outside in extreme conditions for a living... so no dressy stuff. I can get a brand new explorer 2 polar for 6500 or a new gmt2 black for 6750. I am open to other suggestions this will be my last watch purchase for along time. thanks

For travel I would say GMT II, especially at 20% off. That's hard to beat.
I'm not a fan of the Explorer II for hard use since the bezel is easily scratched and difficult to repair during service. Typically they end up getting replaced if bad enough. |

I have both watches and it's a tough call which I prefer. But based on the fact you already have 2 Subs I would recommend the Explorer II. The GMT looks a lot like the Sub and that would be three very similar 40mm watches. The Explorer II is a bigger (42mm) and bader watch. Perfect for someone who leads an active lifestyle. Good luck with which ever you chose!

Extreme conditions would make me favor a ceramic bezel over the Explorer 2 bezel. The GMT is a fantastic watch and you're getting a great price. That said, the Polar would be the perfect complement to your current collection. I would pick it for that reason.

I think the Explorer II with black face and orange hand is a pretty amazing looking watch.

I talk watches and read about watches all day every day and I still can't tell a black GMT Master II from a Submariner apart from more than a few feet away.
The Explorer II is so unique in the lineup. It's the only watch to have both a conical bezel with the numbers of a professional bezel. Totally different than anything else in the lineup. |

Normally I would say the black GMT however you would then have 3 very similar looking watches
White explorer gets my vote because its different to a couple of black dial sport watches, even if the bezel isnt quite as hard wearing as the ceramic gmt |

Wow that's a great deal on the GMTII. I heard it's just discontinued? I hate those tough choices. I can't even make up my mind to give you my .02 on that choice. OK 51% GMTII.

Even though the GMT II in black will look similar to what you have, I suggested that purely for utility. The GMT movement is rather handy if you're crossing time zones, plus you can rotate the bezel for various timing functions. The SS BLRO would have the same utility and certainly be different from what you already own. Given the price difference I would choose the black if you're planning to use it hard. |

Any of the Tudors could work. GMTIIC is a good idea. Pretty similar to what you already have are the Sea Dwellers either 4K or 43. Others to consider are the Air King and the OP39. A Daytona would be sweet if you could swing one.

I have a Rolex Explorer 2 (216570) Polar.
I can only comment on this watch as it is the only Rolex I own. I wear it daily... all day... every day. I work outdoors with cattle and horses. It has been reliable and durable. It has been covered in cow sh*t, mud, dust, oil, snow, compost, etc. After 4 years of continued use I have no complaints. In my opinion, it is an adventurers watch. Good luck. I agree with most that a black GMT wouldnt be enough of a departure from the subs.
If its A or B, I would choose the explorer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Based on what you own I would go with the Polar Explorer II. A great watch and it wears great. The orange hand is nice..

Extremely “extreme” condition? Nothing beat a fixed steel bezel. If it’s damaged, easily replaced for much less than shattered ceramic bezel. Go with ExpII, either black or white since both are winner.

Considering your requirements I wouldn't get any reference with PCLs...

When you say "extreme conditions" and no dressy stuff, the Exp 2 definitely comes to mind.
It doesn't get more extreme than a Deepsea though. |
