Sir Jackie Stewart - Winning is not enough

As most of you'll know, Sir Jackie has been a Rolex Ambassador for close to 40 years. I've just finished his autobiography, Winning is not enough, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously his accounts of Formula 1 are fascinating, but so is his association with our favourite watch manufacturer, as well as other blue chip companies such as Ford, Moet et Chandon, Royal Bank of Scotland and GoodYear.

With the book, comes an hour long DVD sponsored by Rolex, which gives a brief video and pictorial summary of each chapter, and I thought you might like to see a few Rolex based screen grabs.

Anyway onto some pics.

Sir Jackie, with what appears to be an 18K Sub. Nice!

Sir Jackie working as an ABC presenter (of Rolexes) and wearing a Sub.

A grab showing a Rolex ad and a close up of a Dayton.

Another Rolex ad featuring his wife Helen.

Keeping the Rolex association in the family, here's son Paul with a Daytona.

Mr. Rolex, no not JJ, makes an appearance.

Some more Rolex ads.

Sir Jackie with what could be either a TT Sub or GMT.

Sir Jackie mentoring a very young David Coulthard.

Racing the legendary Graham Hill.

The end credit.

I hope you enjoyed the pics and if you are need of a Xmas present for yourself, other than a new watch of course, check out Sir Jackie's book.

I too have read his autobiography, a really fascinating read. I don't think Rolex could ask for a finer ambassador than Sir Jackie, a true gentleman and an inspiration.

The book sounds to be an interesting read indeed.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at a Corporate day in St. Andrews about 12 years ago, when he was doing his bit and pressing flesh for RBS.

He was wearing a lovely YG Day-Date with a diamond bezel.

He came across as the complete gent and I have no doubt that he has done a great job for Rolex over the years.

I always loved Jackie back when he and Jim Clark were at the top of Formula one. Rolex knows how to pick their ambassadors, all class and no controversy. A true gentleman!

Thanks everybody - Sir Jackie certainly makes me proud to be Scottish.

He and his family have a great collection of Rolexes. I didn't screen grab every watch in the DVD but both sons have Daytonas, Lady Stewart is seen with a DJ and Sir Jackie has the ones shown in the pictures above as well as a variety of what look like DJs and possibly a President.

You can see a quick clip from the DVD at his official website.

Sir Jackie is a class act and its a magnificent book. Its somewhat amazing how safe autoracing is now compared to a few decades ago (when it was simply deadly).

I read this book some months ago and only skimmed through the DVD at the racing footage. I'll watch it more thoroughly now.

A very nice thread.
Thanks for the heads up about his book + DVD.
He is a true gent in every sense of the word. As well as being a great ambassador for Rolex.

Jackie Stewart is one of the greats in F1, a class act. And his accomplishments on the race track are only surpassed by his dedication to make F1 safer for the drivers (and was unpopular at the time with the teams / manufacturers) and in his era many great drivers were lost.

One of the greatest drivers of our time (J.M. Fangio was before my time) was Ayrton Senna in 94 and nothing has really been done in the watch industry to remember his passing.

The Driver that I really had hopes for was Jacques Villeneuve, but after Williams-Renault FW19 in 1997 and Renault's departure from F1 really left him without a decent drive, and with Schumacher's arrogance I lost interest in F1. But that last race in 97 (Jerez) where Schumacher tried to wreck out Villeneuve and Schumacher was left in the gravel (and DISQUALIFIED!) still leaves me smiling to this day!

As a side commentary, it is obvious that the money that Rolex does not spend on having sponsors is obviously not spent on Mr. Heiniger's clothes, ties etc.
