5508
Hi team, I am chasing some information on a 5508 that a friend of mine is thinking about selling. The watch was owned by his father from new. The info I am chasing relates to the the originality of the timepiece. I am not sure if originall components have been changed during Rolex servicing? I think the strap is incorrect? A 78360? Also a ball park figure on value would be helpful.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards Craig. |

Dial, hands, insert, crystal and as you point out bracelet are all later items, presumably from service or elsewhere.

The watch still has value OP, but a lot of that value is gone due to the fact that the most valuable parts are gone and have been replaced by service parts. One of the downsides to having a vintage watch serviced by Rolex. Its unfortunate but hindsight is 20/20.

Amazing!
My '58 has seen a little more service. As for the OP.. I like your watch. Yes everything has been changed but I would have no problem wearing a watch like yours. Still a survivor to me and looks like new with the new components. |

It’s a great piece at the right price. The trouble comes when you come to resell and the world tells you it’s worth half what you paid as its all service parts! I like it and it’s service parts make it very wearable.

Awsome guys, thanks for the great feedback. Would anyone have a stab at putting a value on this watch? Happy for a rough guide, as I understand there are a few variables with it?
Cheers |

Technically valuations are against the rules but you may receive some replies with hints. It would be best to go onto eBay and search completed listings for 5508s and compare yours to the ones sold there. It will give you an idea of the current market for your piece.
