Date Size/Magnification
This is probably a really silly question but I have an ExplorerII and a YG DD, both bought this year from an AD.
I have noticed that the date on the DD is substantially larger than on the Explorer. Given that the cyclops magnifies by 2½, is it simply a question that the larger case size of the Explorer means that the date wheel will be larger and therefore the date font will be smaller? Thanks in advance for any clarifiaction on this. |

Not a silly question at all. On the contrary, good thinking on your part 'cause something like this never occured to me before. I think you're right. The larger diameter of the Exp-II would necessitate a larger date-wheel and so the date figures would probably be smaller. Hence the DD date would look bigger through the cyclops. Anyone else have some thoughts or views on this one....speak up now or forever hold your peace!!

Myself would say its because the crystal and cyclops is slightly closer to the date wheel on the DD.

In looking at the two, I see what you are saying. I believe it is due to the larger dial size of the Explorer II. Enjoy your retirement. 30 years to go still for me! (perhaps longer due to my Rolex addiction!!!) |

The crystal on the SD is so thick you can barely see the date, it's so far away
