Why get rid of Super Jubilee on DateJust 36?

So it looks like it's confirmed that Rolex is moving away from the Super Jubilee on DJ 36 to one with a easy link clasp like the ones found on DJ 41. (TT already changed and SS soon to follow) I currently own a 36mm DJ and without a doubt my favorite part of the watch is the hidden clasp. Even though I can't get a perfect fit (have to wear it a little looser than I like or it gets too tight later) I would still rather have the Super Jubilee with the hidden clasp and I'm sure many owners feel the same.

So why is Rolex getting rid of the hidden clasp? Do they want to reserve the feature to the DD only? Do they want to market the 36mm for women now and push men to buy the 41? I'm glad I was able to get one before they axed it but I just can't understand the reasoning behind it.

It could be that the original DJ came with an oyster clasp and they want to stay true to the design?

Looks great with an Oyster bracelet; completely out of place on a Jubilee.

Datejust is out of place on a jubilee bracelet? Riiiigggggghhhhhtttttt

I think the change has to to with microadjustment, there is no way to do it on the hidden clasp, and it's a feature people really like

Yeah, I agree. The Oyster clasp allows for micro adjustments plus Easy-Link. Nice features, and perhaps worth trading the hidden clasp for. I wonder how Rolex decided, as this must have been a somewhat major decision point for the product development folks involved.

He is referring to the easylink clasp looking great on an oyster not a jubilee

I love the hidden clasp. But I love a perfect fit more. I’ve found the easy link with the micro-adjustments to be the best fitting bracelet Rolex makes. Even better than the glidelock.

Agreed. I'm actually picking up a 116234 fluted jubilee silver dial tomorrow.

I think it is just Rolex to change things up every now and then to boost sales. Plus the easylink is loved by a lot of people.

I, though, much prefer the concealed seamless jubilee.

This is a good reason for Rolex to work some genius engineering on the SuperJ clasp to keep the clean seamless connection with the bracelet plus add the micro adjustable capability. Might be a completely different mechanical implementation but needs to be done.

As much as I love the Super-Jubilee, it does need some sort of fine adjustment. Getting a perfect fit, for me anyway, is not possible. However, it looks so damn good It's worth a slight compromise.

As for Rolex discontinuing it, I sincerely doubt it. That's like dropping the fluted bezel - a signature of Rolex watches. But, what do I know?

Have you guys tried putting a 1,5 link on your super jubilee? I had to do it to get a perfect fit.

Rumors like that are probably made for pushing sales of the existing 36’s (at least this was the urge that I had when reading OP’s post).

Most people don’t know about this posibility, really great! No longer have my SJ bracelet but kept the 1.25 link for future incomings as it is pretty hard to get

Went to RSC and they sold me a 1.25 link, I believe was about $70. Still too tight with 1x 1.25 link and too loose with 2 links. I need maybe 2x 1.25 links but at this point I just wear it a bit looser with 2 links because I don't know how it will look with 2x 1.25 links in there.

Annoying but still I would rather have super jub over the easy link clasp.

I too regret their decision of discontinuing the concealed clasp on the Jubilee (which is my least favourite bracelet). Even if the Oyster clasp was on the original DJ, that doesn't mean one shouldn't best an aspect, and the concealed clasp was the natural thing to do. Additional links can be bought in order to have a perfect fit. Now, the DJ on Oyster bracelet would be my first choice for.the DJ.

I love the super jubilee and to me it fits very well and are more comfortable then the oyster bracelet.

It was a sad day wean they changed the clasp to a oyster clasp

As much as I love the hidden clasp, I’d prefer to have the EZ link. So that’s my answer, which you already mentioned in the OP.

I am wearing a new TT DJ36. It is very very comfortable, and the clasp balances the watch on my wrist very nearly perfectly. Although, I prefer the look of the hidden clasp.

Jubilee bracelets originally had the "Oyster" clasps and did so for decades--yea verily, for generations.

All this talk about better fit makes me wonder if the Day Date is going to get a clasp on the President bracelet?

You have already scratched the clasp. That is the down side to these type clasps. Even clothing scratches the soft flat surfaces. The hidden clasp was really an improvement to me. Made me buy a SS model a year or so ago. Would never have done so with the traditional clasp.

Yes, I have, this one gets a lot of wear. I don’t sweat the swirls and scratches.

I never cared for the hidden clasp on the jubilee. It kept me from buying a DJ on a jubilee. I would like an all stainless DJ with fluted bezel (yes I know the bezel is WG) and jubilee bracelet, but am waiting to see if the redesign in the next couple of years includes the oyster clasp on such a model.

I don't have a picture of the clasp handy, but I am a fan of the Super Jubilee bracelet.

Regardless of the clasp, I would like to see the Jubilee bracelet offered on more references.

I'd like it better if Rolex would offer just the Jubilee bracelets for any GMTII.
