Icon9 Spiritual support needed!!!

Guys:

I have been reading the forums for a long time, and fall in love with Rolex. I promise myself one day I am going to have a Rolex, against all odds.

What just happened scare the living s&^% out of me. Out of shear impulse, I bid on this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120344058785

and won. which scares me. Did I just bought something worthless? What if wify find out? what if I paid too much? what if the watch has problems?... ...etc.

This is my very first expensive purchase, and I act completely on emotion. please help me. I need spiritual help, pleeease. Did I do the right things? Am I going to look funny wearing it with my T-shirt ?

please help!

The ebay seller apparently has 538 positive feedback reports (100%) and is offering a 2 year warranty. So I'm going to guess that the watch will be okay. It looks nice, btw.

As for how to explain the watch to your wife, maybe you could buy her a Rolex too?

I've seen plenty of people with Rolexes and tee shirts.

Thanks all the support, and this is exactly I was asking for. the very first time when I made a post, and gets family welcome. Guess I am now officially a member of this place.

I will post some pictures once receiving.

any suggestions? how often should I service a Rolex. My very first watch was mechanical, when electronic watch did not exist yet, given to me by my father, later lost to a theft. After that all, I have been owning only electronic watches. The first watch I bought was a Quartz, from my first month salary. The most expensive watch I have owned is a $800 Casio Oceanus, the best of electronic watch. This is my first Rolex, I will post pictures when I get it.

Welcome to TRF.

Looks like a beauty. If you want total peace of mind, take it to your Rolex RSC (Rolex Service Centre) & get them to check it's keeping correct time. That way they'll have the back off & make sure the movement is correct & not Seiko inside! Also ask them how much a new bezel is. Or if you can afford it, send it in for service. Then you'll know if it's registered lost or stolen & it will come back looking like new.

Either way, that is a beauty. Whatever you do, enjoy it in the best of health. The way I look at it, you only live once, so why not treat yourself?

the guy seems to be reputable..as far as price,it is more than I personally would have paid-but I am a cheap-arse so that doesnt say a lot...lol..you have to figure you are paying for a two year warranty also..just have it completely checked out when you get it to make sure there arent a bunch of aftermarket movement parts and you should be golden..after all,you now own a rolex!!

the stainless steel parts looks very nice, and the bezel has some scratch in them, I think since it is white gold and softer than SS. My question is, does Rolex Service center re polish the bezel or rebuilt, or should I just buy a new bezel, seems that is the most scratched part? see I already have so many questions, and I have not received the watch yet.

The RSC will polish the bezel and the rest of the polished parts, they only do this when the watch is serviced though.

Hi Song,

First, I must tell you that's a very attractive watch. Second, it appears that that particular ebay seller has had many satisfied customers. Finally, if your concern about the watch's authenticity continues to bother you, you might want to have an AD look at it. This will likely squelch any doubts you might have about its authenticity. The worst scenario, is that the AD cannot authenticate it and/or finds a major defect (highly improbable), then you are likely backed by Paypal if you want to return the item. I have owned 5 Rolexes over time, all of which were purchased new from ADs. The truth be told, I have sometimes left the store with some doubt, too, e.g., should I have purchased this watch with another dial? I hope when you receive the watch you are happy with it and share pictures with us at TRF. Congratulations! Taffi

Hello!

Congratulations on your purchase - you'll love it.

I wear my Explorer I with t-shirts all the time - I started off feeling a bit odd as it was very much on show without a cuff to hide under, but I soon got used to it.

Cheers,

Rohan

So I saw sonxu's post, and I can completely relate: I bought my Sea-Dweller on Ebay last Sunday, and it was delivered Wednesday night. Here's the Ebay link for details: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290281902587

Anyway, I took it to one of the local ADs and examined an M-series SD that's a couple years newer. The look, feel, and sounds were identical. Still, I can't help but worry.

I was thinking about sending it in for servicing since it's purchase date is Aug '04. Now, though, I'm going to send it to the New York service center to check on its accuracy - the SD is consistently gaining 28 secs/day! When I sent the seller an e-mail, I got the following reply:

It was rarely worn. I have never spec'ed it So I have no idea what the tolerences are. Sounds like you know more about them than I do. I hope you enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm a little worried. If I send it to Rolex and get the dread reply that it's a fake. Do I have any recourse (other than to ruin the guy's Ebay reputation)?

Is there any member here do DIY watch upgrade, polish, oil, clean? Is that something I can learn? or just forget it, it will ruin everything?? Am I crazy? If not, is there any book about them?

some history of my DIYs:

1. put in some upgrade chip in my Mercedes SLK
2. built my own atomic force microscope
3. built a 500 sq. ft. deck.
4. I can take apart a sony laptop and put it together.

You will love it....However, once you put it on your wrist you will become infected with the disease that everyone else has here. Then you will constantly want another one. That is what makes this fun!! Enjoy it and get those pictures posted.

guys:

Watch arrived for several days now, I did the following:
1. went to AD to have it looked and adjust the band.
2. have the AD to give a trade in estimate (gets positive numbers, although not as much as I paid for, but who cares, I am not traded this in!!)
3. compare the watch with my Casio to see how many seconds of difference (about 11 seconds faster / day ) and this gets me worried !! should I be worried??
4. I am an microscopy scientist, and I use optical microscope scan the entire crystal, and finds a 10 micron fine scratch, which is barely visible, again, this knock my satisffaction from 120% to 99%.
5. contacted the saler, and the saler is very nice and responsive, and suggest me to wear it for serveral days, and if the inaccuracy consists, he will take care of both this and the crystal. Simply his respons already put me at east. I plan to wear it for a month before get back the saler, just to be sure, and because of the incomping trip to China, Japan and Singapore.

and guys, how do I post pictures?

Hi Song,

that seller is legit. I purchased this 14060 Sub from him in November '07, and its been serviced since by the Toronto RSC.
