Icon20 Any Doctors in the House Please HELP!!! TINNITUS

It's been over 2.5 years since Tinnitus has Plagued me!!!
It's been somewhat bearable until now, though for some
odd and unknown reason lately it's getting louder
and more unbearable...

Haven't really done anything differently...Actually been
trying to eat healthier and live better.

I've tried vitamins, certain supplements, music/sound therapy
in the past , On and on...
Any real answers out there ?
Anyone else have to deal with this ? What has worked for you
and what hasn't ... ?

Mine began in December of 1992.

I was in the artillery in the war in Vietnam.

It seems to be a late onset for that, but I've been hearing impaired since those days.

I've just learned to live with it.

The more occupied my mind is, the less noticeable it is.

Thanks guys... I try to bleed out the noise and not
pay attention to it ... I have seen an Ear specialist doctor .
Says I have partial hearing loss .
Just wondering if any other my TRF family and friends
that have this have done anything different with
success to calm or quiet it to where it’s barely noticeable.
I have tried Lipo Flavanoid and it did work but I didn’t
want to train my system and take pills for the rest of my
life ... I’m only 47 .

I’m sure you have but consult with an audiologist if not. My good friend went into practice because she herself suffered from it.

I get ringing often but so far i try not to let it affect me. Background noise is a must for me. I sleep best with hotel air conditioners.

I’m sorry to hear Mario. It must be awful, not being able to clear that noise from your head.

I suffer mildly from it, but not to the extent that it prevents me from sleep etc. now that I’m 50, I definately try to be kinder to my ears. From what I understand hearing aids may help with sound therapy.

All the best of luck to you.

I’ve had a slight ringing in my ears for a few years. I’ve learned to live with it. I’m not a heavy sleeper, so it does affect my sleep somewhat. But not enough that I’m not getting a good nights sleep. Like others have said, background noise is a must. My family doc suggested I see an ENT...

I'm a doctor WITH tinnitus. 24/7. With a few exceptions, tinnitus is a lifetime problem and learning to tune it out is the secret to living with it.

Mine started after a ship’s whistle was sounded 3 feet behind me.... 20 years ago. It is always there and sometimes it gets worse. Wife knows when it is bad based on how loud I talk.

54 and live with constant ringing for about a year now. I no longer enjoy live or recorded music. This has been awful. I suppose I will "get used" to it, eventually, but not being able to enjoy music has been a significant change.

Any Doctors in the House Please HELP!!! TINNITUS

I first noticed it when I was 17. It has stayed bearable until now (42). I do not like it when it is completely quiet and have trouble sleeping unless I have a fan or hotel ac on.

Didn’t expect to read this here.

Past few months don’t know what happened. Left side of ear was inflamed then couldn’t hear for weak. Then that healed and right jaw has been hurting for about a month now. It’s better but was much worst. Chewing still tough.

Been reading lots about TMJ

I sleep with a TV on always. Right now I have headphones on and no music or anything and the ringing is fairly loud. Saw a doctor about it and the doctor was like, "you're old".

I definitely saw my share of Iron Maiden concerts in my youth with no earplugs; one time the ringing lasted 4 days after the show; I have a feeling that early damage is a major contributor to the ringing I have now.

I always wear ear protection now if I'm at a loud environment like a concert.

Quit boxing as well, I think the couple concussions I had probably didn't help.

I’m a drummer ... played since I was 12...
For about the last 10 or so years though I’ve played
once in a blue moon, not much really and no loud music ...
One day it just starting sounding in my head
and never stopped .
From all my research it seems it’s in the
brain and not really the ears . Something is off stimulating
the brain and and it’s manifesting as a
ringing in your ears ...

Interesting. In my case I got it during a concert, not wearing ear plugs, it was a sensation of pain in the jaw area under my ear, like something broke there and then. I went to lots of concerts during this time in my life and the ringing was always gone when I woke up in the morning. Not that time though.

Been a musician most of my life .
Haven’t gone to too many concerts other
than performances I played at ...
Nonetheless, I’ve been on a hiatus for a few years
due to career and work ... I guess it all catches up to
you in the end ...

Been having a gradual hearing loss over the years with the work I do and we do have an annual test by the 'Ear Man'..who comes to one of our shops to test everyone..
But it's gotten progressively worse and have had it for a few years now. 1st my left, when a parallam beam fell a few feet from me, then my right ..after 1 too many jumps into a lake from a decent height. Right side getting worse now since the other day. Don't always have ear plugs with me..and sometimes dont think about bringing them to the site, not knowing if I'll need them.
I'll have to check out that forum mentioned below and see whats happening there..
Now, I just try and ignore it.. but it's more prevalent when things are quiet...!
UGH...

Shooting firearms from a young age, running chainsaws, and being around heavy machinery, most of the time without ear protection, has taken it's toll. I have diminished hearing and pulsing in my ears at times. I've become accustomed to it and it doesn't affect my sleep. It's difficult to understand people talking with any background noise around. I'm now a firm believer in ear protection.

Whats everyone's age..I'm in my 30s and nightclubbing etc has taken its toll ( wore earplugs too). Definitely got the buzzing/ringing @ night...semi noticeable sometimes I wonder if its in my head. Hearing is still good.

Surprised we don't have any treatment yet. Anyone feel like there have been so little medical advances in treatments/cures?

I’m 51 and have been dealing with it for 4 years or so. The lat year it has gotten so bad that I bought a white noise machine which does help me tune it out at bedtime.

I probably have minor hearing loss as weel due to shooting sports and years spent listening to live music in college. Paying the price now.

Yes, not much in advancement for cures or treatment for
Tinnitus....

What has worked so far and I have good days and bad days is
listening to white noise and classical music .
I’ve noticed that changing what I listen to and mixing it up
throwing the brain some curve balls makes it quieter .
I’ve read in a few places thar tinnitus is actually caused by
the brain manifesting in your ears ... By manipulating the
brain it can make it quieter . My overall conclusion at
least on my part for me is brain health affects tinnitus
drastically... For whatever it’s worth ... and less stress and
no loud noises or music ... peace and quiet ... well just the
racket in your ears ...

Twice your age and then some. Been an issue for the past few years. Just trying to deal with it right now..! - Considering hearing aides but undecided, if that should/could help....

I've been playing drums for 40 years and using things that go "bang" for probably 30. My Dad was an instructor so it was part of growing up for me.

The drums did it for me. Specifically the snare drum I was using. A brass shell Rogers Power Tone model. (I got rid of the last one a few years ago but still have plenty of other snares!)

I don't know of any specific "cure", but I can suggest wearing ear plugs while you sleep to give your ears solid rest of their own. It's odd at first but you get used to it. (If you use an alarm, you might need a louder one, or just use a timer on the lights)

Also, mundane tasks, such as mowing the lawn, or when you are exposed to low-volume extended exposure, should also have you wearing ear protection. If you drive with your windows down, keep the driver's window up (or wear ear protection as I do when I (used to) drive my Land-Rover extended distances). My hearing was quite bad for my age when I was younger, but since taking precautions such as hearing protection more often than most would, I am about "normal" hearing loss for my age now. I just lost a lot up front...

I also have occaaions where I get a sudden increase in the volume of the ringing. This can be caused by the build up of ear wax. I went to the doctor once for what I thought was an ear infection and a very large piece of wax was removed... Get one of those ear cleaning kits from the drug store and use it regularly. That helps (and avoids gross potatoes from coming out of your ears!)

If you find something that works, let me know. "I'm all ears." (ha!)

Hi i am not a doctor but i can suggest you few home remedies for tinnitus. Use mustard oil as it contains an antifungal and antibacterial which will helps in treating an ear infection. Mustard oil also helps in increasing your blood circulation and even develop your immune system.
