Those with blue lume.....

How are the new models with their blue lume? Did they change colors only or did they finally solved the problem of why their lume is so bad, like past models.

What models carry this new lume....I have been away from Rolex and might consider purchasing another one, just waiting for the models to be outfitted with a new bracelet and hopefully brighter lume...

I thought there may be some models floating around with this new lume because I saw a pic of a Milly with blue and green lume.

No, you're quite right, the Milgauss does have blue lume markers as well as green. I wonder if the new Sub has followed suit

Icon3 Lume comparo

Hi guys,
New to this forum. Thought I'd start off by looking up one of my favorite topics... lume.

I've been fortunate enough to be in the company of a Deepsea at the moment (on loan from friend), so I decided to take some comparo shots to see how the Chromalight is vs. a few other different luminous compounds (sorry not the best pics since I'm without a tripod at the moment). It's really an apples to oranges comparo since the surface area and amount of luminescent compound vary between these watches, however the Seiko Orange Monster is a good reference since it's known for it's lume quality.

From left to right; Ball Diver COSC (tritium tubes), Breitling Montbrillant Olympus (Super luminova), Deepsea (Chromalight), Omega Chronoscope GMT (Super Luminova), Seiko Monster (Lumibrite):

Here is a shot right after initial charge from fluorescent lamp:

And here they are after about 15 min:

As you can see, the Chromalight holds up quite well, especially considering there is less of it (in terms of raw surface area) vs the Seiko Monster. However, if you want even-keeled light that is able to maintain its brightness 24/7 for roughly the next 25 years after its initial manufacture, it would have to be a Ball watch with the enhanced tritium tubes.

Welcome Tim & great shots. I'm glad to see the DSSD held up. No doubt the Monster and Ball would dominate this competition, but still cool to see.

The funny thing is....the seiko monster costs $150 and the DSSD costs 50x more.

However, glad to see Rolex is stepping it up with some different colored lume. I like it!

Some more lume...

Thx guys! I don't have a DSLR anymore so have to make do with my Canon S3 and a ghetto light box (white Ikea laundry basket w/fluorescent light above it).

15 sec. exposure... (took this with watch run down so as not to create the second sweep effect)

If you've ever photographed a DS, it's very challenging as I don't believe there is any AR coating whatsoever, that coupled with the ceramic bezel reflects every bit of light thrown at it!

Can you see it?

This shot was especially challenging w/the S3 due to the lack of a manual focus ring and basically finding the crown by trial and error.

Good work Turbo - it must have been the flourescent coating that did it.

Yes, my GV has the blue lume but IMO it is not much of an improvement in brightness or longevity.

Same old same old lack of lume lasting.

I think the white dialled Milgauss has blue lume as well. I have to say, seeing the inidices glow blue is very attractive, I prefer it to green.

I have been doing some research on the luminescent materials available. NASA and the ISS (International Space Station) uses a certain type of material on emergency signs that iluminates for up to 16 hours. I tracked down the company for ya. Here is a link.

http://www.arasafety.com/products/emergency-signs.htm

I called them and spoke to a guy in the technical department. He assured me Rolex was not using their product in the new Deep Sea model. He also is looking to buy a Rolex and was very interested/curious what this top secret material is made from. I personally think they are using a type of dye used in the medical field for "tagging" proteins and DNA/RNA sequences. I am still not sure though. It may be an ingredient of the new Chromalight material. Here is another link to that material.

Your welcome Omega. Do you know how long Rolex claims the dial on the new Deep Sea will glow?
