Daytona question
Does anyone know what year Rolex changed the daytona so that the 9 and 6 o'clock sub dials were offset 17 degrees??
Thanks in advance.

Not sure of year, but when they changed from Zenith's El Primero to their own 'in house' movement....think around 2000/2002??

That must mean then that one way to tell a Zenith Daytona from a Rolex Daytona is the position of the subdials.

The Rolex caliber 4130 has the hour subdial at 9 o'clock. Essentially, the hour and second subdials are switched. |

I'm not sure what you are saying Carlo.
In 2000, with the introduction of the in-house 4130 movement, the two sub-dials at 3 o'clock (30 minutes), and the one at 9 o'clock (12 hours) were raised 7 degrees above the center line of the main handstack; the shape of the indices also changed a bit. Also, the seconds sub-dial was moved from the previous 9'oclock position to the 6 o'clock position.... a traditional "Hunter" style movement configuration. Yes, this is the way to tell the Zenith from the 4130.... Zenith on left 4130 on right (Photo from German Forum)
