RG 44 at my Birthday dinner

Last week my AP and I celebrated my birthday at highly acclaimed The Ledbury restaurant in London. I've wanted to go for a couple of years as it has 2 Michelin stars and has been consistently ranked in the top 30 restaurants in the world for the last few years. The food and service were sublime as you'd expect, the delicious short rib of beef, roast turbot, egg with truffles and veal tartare were particular standouts.

We all had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Happy Birthday Neil!

I know the Ledbury. I ate there before. Well worth the 2 stars in this case. The Chef was from Australia if I recall correctly. I even visited their kitchen. That ginger icecream dessert is my favourite.

When come to Michelin-starred restaurants in London, there is a lot of inconsistency I feel.

It was really melt in the mouth, Tom... but the Turbot was even better, the Rolls Royce of fish I always say.

Yes Ben he is, and the service is very good and we had a laugh and a joke together about the football and they even gave us a free dessert! Didn't really need it as the brown sugar tart was delicious as you say, but I still stuffed it down and then died in the cab.

Have you tried the Five Fields? Also very good. Chef likes to keep a low profile and they don't even have any Michelin Stars but the food is fantastic.

Thank you, guys, much appreciated.

Ben, I had a look at their menu and it looks very nice, similar with Short Rib and Turbot and very traditionally English. I'm not really sure where we'll go next, we shall put that on our list now. A friend has a thing at the Shard next month and I want to go up it, never been. We might try Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester, it's the only 3 star we haven't been to in London, but Le Gavroche, the Ritz and now the Ledbury are our regulars.

Alain Ducasse is very over-rated. It's not imho even worth 1-star. For 3-star, you should try Gordon Ramsay at Hospital Road. Need to book way in advance though. Le Gavroche food is nice, typical refine French fine dining but I don't like the atmosphere. It's like dining in an underground dungeon and the whole place has no windows.

BTW, I tried the Ritz earlier this week for fun. Food was actually quite tasty, but frankly, not comfortable to have to dine with jacket and tie and making me sweat because airconditioning in the room wasn't strong. Gorgeous dining room though. I asked for a wet towel to cool myself off and the waiter looked horrified at my request.

Heard mixed reports of Ducasse so haven't been yet and doesn't sound great. I love the food in Gavroche and the Ritz, and as they know me they let me order my own dishes, but the dining rooms are like chalk and cheese for sure. Gordon's place was very good too and his head chef Clare Smith has her own restaurant now which is supposed to be the new big thing so might have to go there too.

Sad to hear the Ledbury will not be reopening. Le Caprice too.
