Very touching image...

I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid
they got a million toys at Toys R us that I can play with
I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid
they got the best for so much less, it'll really flip your lid
From bikes to trains to video games
it's the biggest toy store there is (gee whiz!)
I don't wanna grow up, cause maybe if I did
I couldn't be a Toys R Us kid
more games, more toys, oh boy!
I wanna be a Toys R Us kid

I’ve never been in one, but the Walmarting and Amazonization of the country is probably a dangerous thing on a number of levels.

Got my first gameboy color there, used to get treated to a new hot wheels sizzler when I would go as a kid, got my peg perego ride in suv there. Going to be sad raising my future kids without this store. Lots of good memories goin there with my parents and grandpa.

You are so right. But I think in their case they chose not to invest in new technologies and keep up with the changes in commerce. From what I've read they didn't invest in their employees either so it is a recipe for failure. Then there's Amazon & game over. Very sad.

The kicker with this story is some billionaire offered to inject a few hundred million dollars to keep the company afloat, and the powers that be rejected his offer. The company basically wanted to die. Strange.

I grew up going here all the time. Not necessarily buying things, but just looking around and being in awe of everything. I remember buying the original Nintendo there, and my Gameboy (which I still have, and it works). I think every LEGO set I have was purchased there.

It makes me sad to think that my son won't get to experience the joys of running around a giant toy store and being treated to something he wants; wherever that may occur for him, I don't think it will hold the same value later in life.

That picture is almost heart breaking for the millions of us who loved that store. Sad day, indeed.

Yes, it was the owner of those Bratz dolls. Who knew? I’m gonna have to create some silly ass dolls.

I use to go there and buy video games. I remember you’d take a paper coupon from a vinyl sleeve up to the register and they had the games behind the counter. I’m sure I also went when I was younger than that but I can’t recall.

I don’t despise Walmart because I grocery shop there
from time to time .
I utterly despise Amazon though .... if they went down I
wouldn’t bat an eye ...

Personally I really don’t see a need for Amazon.
Plenty of other venues to shop at and still save ...

Amazon has done nothing special except destroy other
business’ and people’s livelihoods...

I am literally heartbroken that my 10 month old daughter will not experience the joy of running through aisles and aisles of toys. I am going to take her one last time tonight and take many pictures.

It gives me some sort of comfort to see that I am also not the only one who feels this way. That image of Geoffrey tugs at my heart strings and literally has made me shed tears. The memories I have from my childhood that are associated with Toys R Us are some of my fondest.

We are losing part of our childhood, never to be replaced. I know we have the Walmarts and Targets of the world, but it isn’t the same at all.

So incredibly sad.

I used to work there in my college days as a computer sales consultant. It was absolutely busy during Christmas and Summer time.
It’s really sad that it’s all gone.

Smyth toy stores have the monopoly now.

Sad. But I picked up a great engineer from them. So I’m thrilled.

Bidding on their equipment too.

My family has been in the Toy industry for generations. I am actually the seventh family member running the business with my dad at this point.

Toys R Us, had been in financial trouble for years and years, we actually thought they would close their doors sooner. With that said, it is sad as they were the last BIG store focused on toys alone.

I was just in one a few weeks ago and wow... empty shelves mostly and everything on sale, even the shelves themselves.

I went there many many times with my wife to buy stuff for the kids, I felt a little sad and wondered what the future holds for us, companies and business models that were hugely successful are going the way if the dinosaur.

Made me worry about jobs in the future and what my kids will face when they grow up.

Interesting to hear from someone in the Industry. Just curious: did they have the same effect as perhaps Walmart did to smaller business operations? Or that more personal approach had enough strength? I've shopped both and though I feel sad about this company closing I do have to say that I have the best experience at a smaller "mom & pop" store.
