One does get lucky - GMT Master IIc

I have had the GMT Master IIc LN on my mind for a while. As much as I like the my Explorer II 16570, I continued to long for the GMT IIc.

Last week I saw some post about folks in Texas finding SS models and I thought, why not I call some ADs and see if anyone has the GMT. Called a couple and got the same answers one would expect calling an AD these days. However, I called the one that is on my way home and I did not even think they would carry much Rolex inventory as they are more of a Jewelry store.

The person I spoke to started out with how difficult it was to get these watches these day and I am thinking, here we go again... Then, this person hesitated for a sec and said, wait, let me see if we still have the GMT that came in a couple of days ago. It was already reserved for someone. A few seconds later, he said that it is available if I wanted it. They had 2 folks on the waiting list for this watch, and the last two days they have been leaving messages and trying to contact these folks and both had not responded.

I jumped on the opportunity and left work early and got to the store as fast as I could. They had the usual DJ and few PM watches. I was not interested in any of them and just wanted to pay and secure the watch, knowing it was reserved for someone else.

The AD will no ship and will only deal with local customers. He mentioned that it was what Rolex wanted them to do. I wanted him to ship to where I was going to be on vacation this week to save on taxes, but he would not.

The AD took off all of the stickers, activated the warranty and wrote my name and date on the card. All during the sale process, he kept asking me about my collection and when he was talking the stickers off, he did say that it seems like you like to collect watches and won't sell this outright, he still has to take the sticker off. I was OK with that and wanted to establish a relationship with this AD. He did say that he will call me when a Subc date comes in as it the next one on my list.

While, I was leaving he also gave me a gift and couple of Rolex books.

Now, some quick pictures...

I really like that Montblanc case. Do you have a picture of what a watch on a bracelet looks like in there? Does it fit well or is it more for straps?

Congratulations! Outstanding story and an equally outstanding watch. I love the green of the GMT hand and the overall clean aesthetic of the LN.

Looking forward to seeing the SubC!

I have not tried this yet. The hollow indentation to keep the watch in, does not seems to have the depth for a Rolex sports watch. I will try and post some pictures later today.

This case has provision for 2 watches on each side.

Great find! My AD here had one in a few weeks ago when I stopped by, but I'm waiting for the BLRO so I didn't go for it. I was in again yesterday and it was gone. You need to jump on these hen you get the chance!

I really like it especially since it was a free gift when I recently bought a Montblanc 1858 automatic on a cruise ship.

Congrats on a very fine piece. The 116710ln is the Rolex that really pulled me into the brand. I’m happy it did. This piece is the most underrated Rolex imho
