Put a tracking beacon on my car ...??? I canceled them did I make the right move? They said it was to save money ...I have been with them for only one year and have 9 cars insured with them. The one they wanted a tracking beacon on is my Nissan GTR

mandatory or if you agree you get a discount? Personally i wouldn't.

As if its tracking driving habits acceleration/speed etc which some do, you are asking for trouble. Its like incriminating yourself you ever have an accident. Your fault or not isnt the point but the fact that there is data means you would have to hand it over.

They ‘asked’... not mandatory. As stated, ‘too big brother’ and the small discount isn’t worth it.

I did that for a year with Allstate... did not save me a penny.. I put 4K miles a year on my car and was hoping for a discount due to minimal use, compared to most.

I did not care about the big brother factor... I am the most uninteresting man in the world, by far

Don't all these new high end cars already come with tracking from the manufacturer. Whether you pay for the concierge service or not, the manufacturer can track your car remotely. Big brother is just a phone call away.

Absolutely. I can connect my Autel computer to my car and read a log of everything down to what times I locked and unlocked the doors. No exaggeration. There's a disclaimer in the manual that tells you who that information belongs to....and how it will be circumvented.

If a beacon on one car got me a good discount on all 9, I'd go with the beacon. If they want the data, they will get it anyway.

Nor even the new models if you remove the ecu’s connection to the onboard cellular data module. YouTube is full of such DIY hacks for people who don’t want OnStar or others collecting data.

True story, I never paid for OnStar on a new Colorado. Didn’t like the truck’s DOD feature and sold it after a year. But I still get vehicle reports in email today on how the new owner is doing on maintenance, tire pressures, etc. I’m sure OnStar knows more than they send out.

I sure would, and also send my DNA to all those ancestry places. Also leave photos of my credit card online with my social security number and driver's license. My password is password, makes it easy to remember.

Those OBDII insurance trackers would ding me for decelerating too fast for a red light. I couldn't win, risk a ticket running the light or slow down too fast. I can't control the timing of the lights changing to red....

I gave it up after a year as it seemed impossible to actually save money.

Spent this morning with the CEO of a major data aggregation company. If you think anything is private at this point you are delusional. The US needs to come out privacy laws but even the government is too interested in us.

Yeah, I often wonder. Besides the time I spend on the internet on forums and the fact I buy everything but groceries on the internet and now that I’m streaming my TV content.
