My CTE scan results.

I thought I had a decent pain tolerance, with chronic prostitus you kind of have to. And, for being 57, I’m in pretty damm good shape. Well the last week and a half at times I have been curled up in the fetal position, praying for a meteor to come crashing through the roof and take me out. Yesterday I got my cat scan results, and it confirmed: Diverticulitis. MAN, is it painful. Yes, to be honest, that’s why I went out and bought the Tumi I had been drooling over for a while, one of those: “Why the hell not!?” moments; (but I do LOVE that briefcase ). Today was horrible. HAD to start with the pain killers not long after I woke up. There is not much that can be done, antibiotics, pain meds, and at the Docs this afternoon I had a shot of tordol(?) a very powerful anti inflammatory, it helped quite a bit. I have to ride it out until the inflamation dies down. It’s aggrivating because I read the common promoters of getting an attack are: Obesity, heavy smoking and no excercise. WHY ME THEN!? I am none of those. This is my first bout with it, and I am praying my last.

Sorry for the complaining, and I should be grateful the scan did not reveal anything more serious, but I would really like to hear from anyone that has/had Divertics. Can you recommend remedies that help with the discomfort? And advice or stories of how long your attacks last? Anything to share is appreciated

You had me there for a moment at "prostitus"...........and I assume you mean Prostatitis?



Are you sure the Dx was "diverticulitis" and not the more benign diverticulosis? Although, taking Toradol, definitely lines up with diverticulitis (more aggressive form).

Age and hereditary factors will come into play too, not to mention the prevalence of this pathology in western society (because of our dietary habits, that are part of our "culture").


At any rate, I´m sure your primary brought you up to speed on dietary changes, because by now you are aware that they are not going to go away (the diverticuli) ?

My dad has it. Once you resolve this bout get on the dietary program. The reviews on diet restrictions are mixed, but the common seed and nut restrictions have really worked well for my dad.

Have a friend that has this and is in his late 40’s. He sticks to the diet and generally has really good luck with it. Not sure how severe his diagnosis is.

Feel better buddy, sorry you have to deal with this, from what I've read it's all about identifying your trigger foods and habits and eliminating them as best you can. It's all about preventing the attacks. All the best Paul!

I hope you feel better, Paul. I'm just about over my latest episode, but it was very mild compared to what you're describing. The hell of it is that it can strike at any time without warning. The only good thing about it is that it eventually goes away. I hope yours goes away quickly.

Thanks for the well wishes everone, slept well last night and am feeling better this morning. This is my first bout of it, Doc says it could be my last, or it could pop up once a year, or every five years, or ? I am going to follow those diet restrictions TO THE LETTER.

I lived with it for a year and a half, then the flareups came more often.
I was getting a flare up once a month, more flareups more chance of a rupture. A rupture is deadly. If the pain pills slow your colon watch out that's bad too. Take lots of vitamin D watch out for seeds, nuts, corn and anything that doesn't digest. Have you had a colonoscopathy(sp) ? My surgery and recovery was painful, but i feel like a new man now.
