AD ini Bali
After over a year of pouring over these boards and visiting the authorised dealer in Bali, Bandung and Jakarta I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase my first Rolex. Last week after a nice chat with one of the salesmen he told me that it would be maybe a year for the BLNR, forget about the BLRO as they were not even taking names or deposits, but that he could get me a sub date within a month. The sub is really my first love and a tough call between it and a GMT 2.
So after the week dreaming and deciding that I was 100% certain, I returned to the AD with cash in hand for a deposit to guarantee myself my first Rolex. When I walked in I was greeted by who I assume was the manager as the previous salesman wasn't around. His first response was that they were not even taking names for the Sub as it was a very desirable watch and then after I pushed to at least get myself on the waiting list he gave me the same old story of if I were to purchase another watch he could make sure I got the next sub to arrive. I know that many have had the same experience, but I thought that Bali being a holiday island and that the MSRP here being higher than most other countries in the region that I had gotten lucky, apparently not. My dilemma now is that I cannot order from one of the GM dealers as the import duties here are ridiculous, and my friends in Singapore and Bangkok say it's the same situation over there so I can't even fly over there and grab one. Does anyone here live in the region that can help me out with some suggestions on how to acquire a NIB Sub or GMT around MSRP or am I pretty much back to square one reading the forum and dreaming? |

you can try jd.id, i have never bought a watch online before though.
Its of course not an AD. They seem to have stock. You can pay when it arrives (after checking everything), or you can pay upfront with credit card (with 12x installments)

On sub c vs gmt c, i had the same problem myself.
Difficult choice. I ended up buying gmt becoz it looks better on my wrist, it has more functions, less common (but very much sought after), and the maxi case is not as wide as sub c (my eyeball observation only). I think gmt 2 c all black & batman will be discontinued soon. They dissapear from latest rolex catalogue In the end, buy what you love. Good luck

Do you know anyone in your area who might want to by a Rolex too? Maybe as a gift or for themselves?
Ask around and try to bundle the deal.

people in singapore are paying ABOVE retail for 116610LN at ADs. Officially, the AD isnt allowed to charge more by Rolex.......but it is going on. I think that is insane. Daytona sure, but for a sub above retail? really? One AD i called a while back said they had the daytona available for purchase through a friend....at the gray market price....this is before I got my daytona at retail from a trusted AD (not in SEasia). SEAsia as a whole region is rife with corrupt practices in every single AD - this comment is based on living in the region for over 10 years. unless you're lucky i'd pretty much give on them.
IMO. the RSC in singapore should be allocating all in demand SS models. It's the only way to take power away from the AD. I'm not bitter, I have and get what I want (at retail...but I have to wait)...might add the JC blue down the line......but it's frustrating to know that you have to go through such an eye and wallet gauging process to buy something that you want. Wish you the very best of luck, the 116610LN and the 116710 are not worth paying over retail for....IMO.

I saw both black and white dial daytonaC at the AD window (only one in the island) early this year, not sure what the deal with that, maybe just for display, it is as impossible to get as everywhere else.
I'm afraid you have to go grey dealer route, as I see many BNIB SS pieces are listed every week at just one grey's website. The fact all AD in the country owned and operated by one company doesn't help either, as they would have the same policy. |

with the shortage happening everywhere I think the best bet is to pay above retail unless you want to build relationship with your AD.
Have you visited Gajah Mada Plaza in Jakarta? Mostly grey seller there but when I visited there they have all the SS models including the blue dial SkyD. Again, above retail price is to be expected. |

Hello again everyone and thank you kindly for the responses. I have looked into the few local grey dealers here and they want anywhere from a $1300-1600 markup on the Sub Date to a $2500 markup on the BLNR, I'm just not willing to pay such a premium for an already expensive indulgence. I could accept the premiums of the TS on this forum, but $10k for a Sub is a little hard to swallow.
Handyhsl, thank you for the advice and if you see anything reasonable, please keep me in mind. I am not a big fan of the TT, a little to flashy for Bali, and even then I prefer the SS. Gmtobsessed when I started looking around last year they also had these models in stock but this week all they had except for the usual DJ and OP was a YG Daytona and a RG Sky dweller on Croc. Starwalker, I have a good friend in Singapore who has been a very good client of one of the AD there and he has told me the same thing. Looks like I will be waiting a while for a friend to visit from the US that can pick one up off of one of the TS on here or just continue my search in Indonesia and hope that I get lucky. Thanks again and look forward to any other suggestions you guys may have. |
