Rolex model given names are childish and inaccurate

It really irks me when I see these stupid names being used when a Rolex model is referenced.

Please allow me to elaborate:
- Coke - the Coca Cola logo is red and white, the bezel is red/black
- Pepsi - the Pepsi logo is red/white/blue while the bezel is only red/blue, surely Superman or Spiderman would have been more appropriate
- Batman - this character's costume is more like black/yellow (see the logo background and belt) while the bezel is black/blue.
- Kermit - it's a green frog and the watch has a green bezel and black dial

All of the above don't make sense to me and I will never use them.
I find them childish and inappropriate for such an amazing brand like Rolex.
I see no issue in calling a watch ''126710BLRO''.

Is anyone else who feels the same way?

If watch nicknames bothered me to the point of doing a thread on it perhaps I would have to seek more challenges in my life as in the big scheme of thing nicknames for watches doesn't rank high up there.

PS It's a watch forum loosen up a bit and roll with it!

it is what it is... however when an AD uses those nicknames, i turn around and walk out. Ive done it mid-sentence before because i hate it that much. Regular people i guess its fine, but people representing the brand absolutely not. So its about context to me.

Dont try to sell me a cartoon or comic book character, but feel free to talk about your comic book watch ...if that makes sense.

I agree and people who think they are ok should not be surprised when they get trolled in turn and receive incorrect information.

You have a spreadsheet for this don't you? I think they are childish too but let's face it, most of the enthusiasm for watches here is not exactly dignified. You're like the BMW guys that lose their minds over whether "beemer" is a BMW motorcycle, a car or both. Is your problem with them actually that they or not technically accurate?

It’s not professional and it’s also not a watch forum so to me it’s a basic expectation of professional behaviour

Personally I have no issue when fans of a product organically come up with a nickname that seems to fit I think of it like the Harley fans Panhead, knucklehead Etc. It is a term of endearment and in some cases great devotion. what I don't like is when manufacturers and Brands try to artificially create nicknames to drive up hype personally I've never heard anything from Rolex and if they prefer the use of the nicknames or not.

I have a BLNR, don't mind others calling it Batman.
Hopefully I'll get a SS BLRO soon, pepsi, but
if I ever get a WG BLRO I'm calling it Superman, cuz that's how I'll feel with PM on the wrist.

I surmise that people , many of them anyway, who get upset at the nicknames, to the extent that they hate the practice so much are just being snobby and like to pat themselves on the back ...under the guise of professionalism or need for formality. Lighten up, Francis. It’s a hobby

The nicknames Coke and Pepsi are quite old and those names get the benefit of the doubt for me but I really hate the superhero nicknames and I really don't understand why those names are chosen for those watches.

So what if they’re childish? In the end, we’re just adults playing with very expensive toys.

Funny thing is I don't see any of these types of monikers used with PP, AP, RM etc.
Somebody correct me if there are some nicknames in these brands.

I agree that some of the names are rather inaccurate. However, I think for most people, including myself, it is much easier to remember and refer to the nicknames rather than a string of digits and letters, and it does facilitate easier communication. Trying actually saying 16610LV out loud, as opposed to typing it out; 16610LV is eight syllables as opposed to the two in Kermit. Now imaging having a conversation using just reference numbers....
