Watch Winder Feedback needed...

Hello everyone! I have an older Eilux double winder and looking to add a single winder. Please recommend a decent single watch winder in the $200-300 range. Any feedback on Wolf winders? They have a few models in that price range…Cub $229, Cub with cover $239 (bi-directional setting), Windsor $265 and Windsor with cover $319 (clockwise, counter clockwise and bi-directional settings). I also looked at Orbita, but their single winders start at $295, which is the Sparta model (settings?). TIA!

Used Wolf winders for years. Good value and mine have held up well. Look for sales, many times you can find good Wolf items at huge discounts when they have sales.

Wolf without a doubt. Check around, some sites are much cheaper than others. I have a Viceroy 2.7 double and works great. My Eilux double was nothing but problems, very poor design, no replacement parts available, company is defunct.

I like my Orbita winders. You can always call and see if the have any blemish or demo units for sale.
They have always been very helpful over the phone.

I have a Wolf double winder and am very happy with it. Found it significantly cheaper on AMZN than from their website - may have been on sale, I just don't recall now. It's a nice winder though.

Wolf and Orbita are the way to go if you insist on a winder...your wrist is the best winder!

Thanks for the responses so far guys. Yeah, Wolf wonders can be found significantly cheaper on Amazon

Do you think it’s worth it to spend a little more for a winder with a cover and one that has multiple settings (clockwise, counter clockwise and bi-directional settings)?

Most Wolf have these settings and adjustable TPD

Yes, except the Cub, which is their base model. Has some settings, but only bi-directional rotation.

“Rotation: 10 second start delay, 900 TPD (Turns Per Day) bi-directionally, patented rotation programs - Intermittent rotation with pause and sleep phases pre-programmed.”

The Windsor, which is more premium has similar settings, plus clockwise, counter clockwise and bi-directional setting:

“Rotation: 10 second start delay, 900 TPD (Turns Per Day), patented rotation programs - Intermittent rotation with pause and sleep phases pre-programmed. Double the amount of TPD by selecting bi-directional.”

It was for me. I try to find the winder reqs for brands and set the winder appropriately. Not sure how important that is ultimately but it gives me peace of mind.
And if by "cover" you mean the fold down lid, I do keep some misc things in the covered area of the Wolf. One thing about that that annoys me though is that they use this cheap latch that opens from the front with a push button, so when you go to push it to open the lid, the whole winder slides across the shelf. Minor but irritating.

By cover I mean glass cover that folds down from the front and latches closed. Unless you are in a dirty/dusty environment, then maybe the cover is not necessary? Plus no cover means easy access

Orbita has a closeout/outlet sale on the Sparta winder. Regular price $295...sale price $195. They say minor surface imperfections. Seems like a great deal to me!

You’ll want to PM padi. He is the resident expert on watch winders, the club president of the welsh coalition of watch winder collectors and a foremost expert on all things related to watch winders.

I would also value Peter's input on this question?

I’m leaning towards the closeout/outlet Sparta single winder.

Keep the recommendations coming fellas

Now I’m back to considering Wolf winders. Good value and some nice sales.

I'd go with the one that you visually like the best. Both are great. However, something to keep in mind is the size of your watch strap/bracelet etc. The cup on the Orbita (I think it's true of all of the Orbitas) rocks back and forth. There is a gap in the cup. So make sure your watch is small enough to not stick out and therefore inhibit the rocking motion. I think this might be more an in issue if one has a rubber strap as opposed to a bracelet... at least that's what I found with my two "rubber" strap watches- Breitling and Omega (though they are both on the larger size.) With the Wolf winder, the cup is enclosed and therefore can handle about every size.

Also, I don't think the Orbita has any settings (other than off/on), but I'm in the camp that would think the rocking motion is a bit more natural than the slow turning motion that the Wolf and most other winders have.
Good luck.

Orbita makes two different winders. One that rocks and one the spins. Both are programmable for rotation per day. The one that spins can be programmed for CW, CCW, or both. The slots are where the band rest and I have hand no issues with any Rolex band.

I have three Brookstone quad winders. They are silent (we keep them in the bedroom) and each motor is independently adjustable for CW, CCW, and alternating cycles. Each motor is also independently adjustable for speed of rotation. And the quad winders run about US$200 each. Single winders are probably in the US$100 range or less.

I've heard good things about these. But... I'm pretty sure that they are hitting some hard times and are closing all the stores except those in airports. I have no idea if online presence will continue. Generally speaking.. they are on thin ice, but they do have solid products.
