Yacht Master II - Opinions Needed

Hey Everyone,

Quick question for some input and opinions - good or bad.

It seems like every time I'm at an AD, I see lonely, unloved Yacht Master II models sitting in the case. During a long airport layover, I tried one on just to see.... and I really liked it..... I think.

In fact, I am now feeling the bug to get one in SS. Am I crazy?

Why do those seem to fly under the radar? Is it because of their large size? The limited application of the timer? The color? The price?

They seem to be so unique in form and function, but maybe that's the problem. The blue color is beuatiful, its got the size that many people seem to like, and it doesn't seem to be overpriced on the secondary market.

Please fill me in!
Obviously, watches are always about personal taste, but am I missing something?

All thoughts and comments greatly appreciated.

It's totally personal taste.

For me, I find the giant YACHTMASTER II lettering on the bezel too loud and gaudy. Remove that, I'd be fine with the watch. Yes, the complication is useless but that's not saying much.

Me too. I love the size and look of the SS YM2. Honestly I have no use for its complication and if it had a date wheel, I could justify owning one. I always catch myself looking at them at DavidSW. I find the blue bezel and white dial so clean and crisp, it speaks to my personal style.

Yacht Master II - Opinions Needed

I really like it and have toyed with adding one for some time — as I love to sail.

Even though the complication is pretty useless in a modern setting - it is a great watch that doesn’t get enough love IMHO.

I could DEFINITELY ‘lose’ the ENORMOUS - Yacht-Master II lettering on the bezel. That is a turn off for me. Put it on the dial.

Love the YMII, but it has limited appeal. It's a large watch so make sure you have the wrist to pull it off. Sure the complication doesn't have much use in the real world, but it's still cool as hell. It's unique, it's bold, it's brash, but it is a sweet looking watch. If you want a statement piece I think it's a great choice.

I think I get what you mean by "fly under the radar" because of of it's consistent availability, but physically speaking on the wrist it's definitely not a watch I'd describe as "under the radar". It's got tremendous wrist presence IMO.

It's ab absolutely stunning and beautiful watch. For a big watch it wears extremely well is very comfortable.

That's the good. The bad is that I feel it's overpriced and features a (although innovative) useless function. Compared to the Sky-d which features a similar ring command system, I'm in shock of the price. I did briefly own one and loved it for a while, but after some time had a hard time looking at it without seeing the hefty price tag and useless (to me) function. So i moved it along.

If I were in the market for one i would not want to pay retail. Just my opinion.

People think it's douchy, loud and obnoxious. I personally love it. It's the king of stainless steel and bullies all other models in the range.

If you want people to think you have a yacht, the Yacht Master II yells that. I shop at the Atlanta Mayors and I see the YM II in the case all the time. I don’t think they move all that well.

I recently bought the platinum bezel blue dial Yacht Master and really like its looks and its feel on the wrist.

I love the YMII, thinking of trading my sub for one. I've always had a want for it since the first time I saw one.

Not a YMII in SS, but this YachtMaster is gorgeous and certainly not unloved.(at least by myself)

Love the YM II, especially the SS version.
A close friend of mine owns one and I never get tired of admiring it !

You all are fantastic and helping me to better see the light and different perspectives on this.

Great thoughs and very very helpful.

I have been looking at the pepsi GMT, but still too overpriced for SS, and I SkyDweller, but I like the arabic numbers rather than the stick dials.

The YMII might fill a niche of uniquieness that might work. Maybe go big and brash with this - a good piece to balance other watches.

Again, thank you all so much!

They said that about the Bluesy and I loved it for 18 years on my wrist. I love the YMII but I also like unique Rolex models like the Hulk so the YM2 might be in my collection. I think the series one YM2 is undervalued and a good time to buy one on the secondary market.

It's subjective. You're complicating it... Have a I love Daytona, next guy loves Submariner, and you like Yacht Master. Buy it what you like In the end, you'll be wearing it..not us.

It's a great watch. I had one for a while, but it didn't tick enough boxes to stick around long term...

I love the YM II. That was going to be next piece, but I have fallen head over heels for the GMT CHNR.

The YMII, I think, is a beautiful piece. But get one used or one with the blue hands. I think the new ones with the mercedes hands makes it hard to read the time lol. I like the simple blue hands.

I've always thought it was a good looking watch... went to try one on for fun and thought it was too large for my smaller wrists.. so for me the YM in RG on OF works a lot better.

I tried on the rose gold YM with the rubber strap. It’s beautiful but looks small on even my 7” wrist and I like 36mm watches.

I LOVE the YM-II. Bought one a few months ago and have been wearing it everyday since then. A few thoughts ...

(1) IMO, the "Yachtmaster II" script on the bezel looks bad in magnified photos. In real life, it hardly stands out that much. After all, the font size is < 0.5 cm

(2) I prefer the new set of hands. Mercedes hands make telling the time very easy at first glance. And, combined with the sports style serrated bezel and triangle at 12, it is perfectly in harmony with the rest of the professional line.

(3) For me, I find it waaay more interesting and fun than the hard to get models. I'm glad that they are readily available at ADs and can be had with a nice discount.

A few pics ...

I love my TT YMII! What appealed to me was that it's totally unique and doesn't look like a slight variant of almost every other rolex sports watch. I suppose it's for people who enjoy a little individuality.

I like this piece. It’s not like every other sports watch that I’ve seen. The blue (very nice shade of blue I might add) bezel and the white dial has a very unique contrast. IMHO it’s a louder Rolex sports watch due to the color contrast (if that’s your thing).

Price aside I love the YG version, followed by the SS.

Anyone know what the retail is for these 2 variants? What kind of discount can one expect from an AD?

Does anyone know or know of anyone who has actually used the regatta chronograph during an actual regatta? It seems terribly complicated (and impractical) to use..
