Will 2009 bring you a new Rolex? If so, which one?

The world's economy seems to be going south, but I'm wondering how many TRFers are going to take advantage of the incredible deals that will surely be available in the coming year. And, if so, what's caught your eye so far?

For me, I think (hope) I'll finally get that Sub ND I've been pining for since I joined the forum. How about you?

Good luck with that Pav.

Me, I'm done buying unless something extraordinary comes out at Basel.

With the way the world's economy is heading, I have sworn off all Rolex purchases for awhile. Instead, I am buying gold bullion.
I forsee real trouble with all currencies, especially the US dollar. Seems our own government's treasury department is one giant Ponzi scheme.
Plus, between me and the wife, we have enough Rolexes. At last count it was 17.

And, at the risk of hijacking my own thread, can you tell us what type of Basel offering would pry open that pocketbook of yours, Felly?

Well for starters, a SS Daytona with a date or increase in size. (not likely)
Milly with a different color crystal other than green. (?)
Ceramic Pepsi GMT II
Anything with RED writing on the dial like the old school Subs.

Aw, jeez, I didn't think about a Ceramic Pepsi GMT II.....now I have to wait until March to make sure what it is I want to get. And by that time my wife, who is far, far more sensible than I am, will put the kabosh on any watch purchases.

Nuts!

I don't have anything specific in mind to buy in '09, but if something very vintage pops up then who knows.......

Another sub or YM would be nice but price would have to be right. I read about all the folks getting these 20% deals but havent seen them yet. I better start looking harder. Of course there are only a few AD's here in town. Have to see what happens with thier sale price after next week

It will (in the next 6 weeks or so, after my bonus). The decision will be between: Explorer II white, Sub LV, GMT-black or Pepsi or finally the Sea Dweller. I have tried them all on but really can not make up my mind. My guess is that I may go with a quality pre-owned piece. Although the AD discounts are good it seems. Have a few more weeks to ponder.

Explorer II white for sure, if my AD can get it for me a "Daytona white dial" , I already bought too many watches this year.

Well, 2008 was a big watch buying year for me, but never say never...

If all goes well with my upcoming wedding and I get extended on my contract, may use some of the extra to purchase the new misses a midsized SS/Pt YM. Nothing for me however, except for maybe some straps, watch books, etc.

Actually, I ONLY buy high and sell low and I am not turning over a new leaf just because it's a new year...

There are going to be some tremendous deals I believe on Rolex (Onkyo's idea on a 1655 is a good one... I think I am going to focus on Panerai. Eventhough that I have been warned recently that the fad is going away and that it is a terrible investment since... I am good at bad investing... I hope 2009 is a Panerai year...

Mods, it should be a rule - Thou shall not reference New In Box Watch without indicating which watch it is!!!

That will be a great New Years Eve no matter what it is!

Yes, the US Treasury and Federal Reserve appear to be running the mother of all Ponzi schemes, printing money to bail out their cronies. There's no such thing as a free lunch and I wonder what price their scam will extract. As for watches, I only have the Deepsea on the radar but it isn't a compelling buy....yet.
