Buffing it out
I have a new Submariner and it has already accumulated some hairline scratches on the bracelet and on the case. Are those easily buffed out?

Yes they are, although I recommend leaving it alone until your first service.

Those scratches are character blemishes! I don't think you bought it to leave it in the box!
Enjoy that timepiece and in 3 to 5 years you can get it serviced. It will come back to you brand new so that you can scratch it up all over again!

One thing that I've seen people say on this forum is that the only person that can see those scratches is you. No one else will notice them, and as soon as you polish it, the scratches will come back.

It's a strange rule of watch ownership that the more careful you are, the more scratches you will acquire...
Best to let the RSC sort 'em out every 5 yrs... However, if they really bug you I find that an impregnated silver cleaning cloth reduces the appearance of hairlines (these cloths are nowhere near as abrasive as the Cape Cod type, but I would still exercise caution). Finish the job with a high quality microfibre cloth - with the emphasis on high quality. Cheers

If its SS leave it as is...
Its a tool watch, they are meant to show wear. It tells their story and adds to their character.

Agree with everyone else here; just enjoy the watch. When the time comes for the first service, Rolex will take care of that.

The answers are close to unanimous, and that's pretty rare in any forum -- leave those scratches be, and let the RSC sort it out every five years.
Cheers, Chris

Leave them, otherwise you will be chasing scratches everyday.
