Icon4 2019 BMW M850i Coupe with xDrive!

WOW! This is a Good Looking Car! If you have an M6 do you consider getting one?

I'm just not sure the changes are enough for me to switch. I definitely want to test drive it!

Honestly Larry, I like yours better. Almost too many body flicks on the new one. Bet it drives great though.

Another year away for me for my next one, loving my BMW 550i GT, massive machine on a 7 series frame. V8, twin turbo, 450 lbs of torque, like a rocket, and punch the "Sport Mode" button and hang on, huge car, like driving your bedroom on the highway...

Thanks for the link....sweet!

So what will be the difference between the 6 and the 8? The 8 will be more lux I’m sure, but is it also bigger?

I kind of hate how all car companies have a million different models just to capture every possible buyer. Whatever happened to being exclusive?

I wish BMW would go back to the 3 (coupe/sedan), 5 (sedan), 6 (coupe), 7 (sedan), Z4 and X5. Cut out all of the in between models, GT and Gran Coupes.

Same here but those days are long over with all the profitable niches they have decided to capture.

I would much rather have a new m5. Less money, faster and BMW to me is fast sedan.

Yep. Those days are long gone. The final nail in the coffin is the Lambo SUV lol.

What I liked about the 90s 8-series was that it differed markedly from the rest of the range. The new one looks like a bigger and heavier 4-series.... but, I’m sure it will be a pleasure to drive and sit in. I’ll have to see it in person, but the current 6-series seems more distinctive.

Well, in some ways, BMW is doing exactly that, by dropping the 6-series coupe:

“Word is the 8-Series is coming because BMW concluded that the 6-Series coupe and convertible represented a redundancy of sorts: The 3-Series/4-Series coupe and cabrio outsold it handily while offering a sportier experience and a lighter curb weight. The 6-Series coupe and convertible were also plagued by polarizing exterior designs. They were softened somewhat for the second generation but largely failed to elicit much emotion from BMW fans. Lastly, today's 6-Series were heavy, tech-laden machines residing in the Porsche 911 price range. While the 6-Series did not challenge the Porsche directly, the overlap in the price, along with the presence of the 3-Series, didn't help capture a desirable market share. The return of the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet along with their Maybach variant -- much larger machines -- also helped cement the case for the 8-Series return.”

Ok, that makes a bit more sense as a 6 coupe and 8 coupe would be too similar.

I think the current 6 is probably the best looking car in the entire lineup right now so I am a bit surprised that it's not doing well. I see them pretty frequently.

I’m sure it’s a wonderful car, but they all look so similar.

Slap a Kia badge on it and I wouldn’t be surprised.

Lovely looking car. My next door neighbour still has his classic 8 series that he bought from New Years ago. Has always said he initially kept it because they made him such a derisory offer at 5 years old. Now it’s probanly going up a bit.

I love the look. Don’t flame me but it has some air of a current generation mustang.
If I had a 6, the drive would have to sell me because IMO the looks alone are not sufficiently differentiated.

The first BMW in a while that has my interest. I believe it is built on the 7 series platform so it will be larger than the 6 Series which is built on the 5 Series platform. I have owned several BMW 650's and have always been impressed with the power and the performance. The down side is the weight and balance as compared to the MB SL. I currently have a MB SL550 and could not be more pleased with the performance to luxury ratio and not having the useless back seats of the 650. I will go and test drive the new 8 Series when it arrives at the local dealer. My true concern will be depreciation as the MB S Class Coupe drops like a rock and at year end I have seen new models offered at 30K off sticker. The 8 Series, for me, maybe a certified pre-owned model a few years down the road for half of msrp.

What about Mercedes? I've always been good at spotting any model but it's been long since I lost the track with MB.

Why? What model did you own prior?

I have had 4 in my time, two M3's (different variants) now and they have both been excellent. The E46 was bought new in 2005, so its 13 years old.

Remember the M8 will becoming as well....

the M850 will also have AWD which your current M6 does not have....which is probably not a biggie if you life in Cali.

the M850 like the M240 will be an amazing car, are great all around performer that will still coddle you. These Msport editions are made to be the most robust streetable expressions. the M...or full Monty have more motorsports in them. will be sharper and less coddling.

But with the advancements in Tech the new Full M-cars have a wider range. Go drive the new M5 and you'll see orders faster and more capable than the outgoing M5/M6 and I think more comfortable too...it's just progress.

Interesting. Makes me wonder if the new AMG-GT 4-door will spell the demise of the CLS eventually.

As for this 8 series coupe, I'm not sold on the styling. I'd have to see it in person.

Agree.

To me this is actually a disappointment.

The older ones are, imho, are some the sexist cars out there.

This. Not so much.
