Help - Pre-owned - Datejust 116234

Hello everybody,

Fairly new to the forum. Wasn't a great fan of Rolex previously but it starting growing a lot recently. Placed a deposit for the BLRO, we will see how that works out..

For now I would like to ask for your assistance for a pre-owned purchase. In addition to the BLRO, I fell in love with the Datejust Fluted Blue Dial Jubilee.

Today I was casually strolling in a mall when I saw this shabby looking second hand watch dealer. I check out the vitrine and it goes from shabby to lovely understated watch lover boutique.

My eyes spot the 116234 Datejust straightaway. The watch has box and papers. Dates back to 2007 with no service ever since. The bezel will need a little service anyway.

Asking price was 6000 and went down to 5800€.

As I am not accustomed to secondary market, does this seem reasonable to you? Great, fair, poor price?

Anything I should be wary of?

A picture of the watch in question.

It is either going to be this or a JLC Duoface.

Thank you very much for your help !

That would be a high price for a used, 11 year-old 116234 in the USA; here you could get a new one from a gray market dealer for about that price. But it all depends on market price in your area. I would compare the asked price to the new retail price for the same watch in your country (which you can find online) and consider whether the discount is sufficient. Check out used prices on this forum and other popular internet watch forums as well – this is a common and current Rolex model. Note that the bezel is made of white gold so a replacement, if needed, could be a bit expensive. Polishing less so.

It is widely expected that the 116234 will be updated by Rolex with a new model this coming spring, having a slightly different case and a movement with better power reserve. However, the new model will probably come with a higher price, and people also expect the current "hidden" implementation of the jubilee bracelet clasp to be changed to a less elegant design.

However, it's a VERY nice watch. So is the JLC Duoface.

It looks like it has been polished quite a bit because the lugs don't look that sharp but rounded.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your input !

Oddly I do not find many for sale, on the forum or the famous auction site.

The state of the watch seemed a bit off especially the bezel.

Will steer away from it.

Cheers !
