Very cool stop and go movement

I know this isn't a Rolex, but I thought the movement was very, very cool regardless. I love how the second hand stops, then the minute hand snaps into place, and then the second hands resumes. Most interestingly the second hand has to make a full rotation in 58 seconds to make up for the lost two seconds.

its cool, but what is the advantage of this over a sweeping second hand with a jumping minute hand? I would personally find a jumping second hand better than this (like geophysic true second) or something with a simply jumping minute hand and regular seconds. I don't see the value in watching the second hand sit at 12.

The idea is that it replicates the way the clocks work at Swiss train stations. Very cool--especially if you have nastalgia for those clocks are the stations.

The secondhand takes 58 seconds for one round and then pauses for 2 seconds when the minutehand jumps forward.

The Mondaine watches are modeled after the clocks at Swiss railway stations. The reason for the 2 second stop was to synchronize the clocks throughout the thousands of stations in the country. In the 1940s, a system was designed whereby they would synchronize the clocks at the stations using signals that travelled over the telephone lines. Every minute, the clocks would synchronize and this 2 second delay was part of that process.

really like mine. I actually like how the minute hand is always on a marker. Makes it easy to just read the time.



Don't think they're worth the original retail price, but seems like you can get them at a pretty good deal these days.
