Wallet Advice

Thanks to this forum, I have been thinking that my trusty black Coach wallet needs to be upgraded. We are going to be in Paris shortly and I thought that would be a good time to get one "at the source."

I read through a lot of the 30+ page wallet thread, but was hoping I could ask a few specific questions. I am thinking of getting something from Goyard, Fauré Le Page, or Louis Vuitton. I saw the LV Epi slender wallet at LV this weekend, and am considering getting that. It is around $590 or $600 here in the U.S. The Goyard would probably be a credit card-type wallet, which I have never had before. I've always had a traditional billfold. But I like to keep my wallet as thin as possible, so maybe one with three or four slots per side would work, with a little cash and credit card receipts in the middle. The other Goyard possibility is a traditional billfold. No need for a coin pouch (!!!), but maybe one with slots for credit cards/health insurance card/DL and cash in the middle opening.

Fauré le Page is the other possibility. I emailed them after reading the above mentioned thread and they sent pictures and prices for their wallets. It does not appear that they have a traditional billfold, so it would likely be a "4 credit card etended" model, which I am not sure if it would be big enough to be practical.

My questions are: the only prices I know are the US Epi slender wallet and the FLP prices in Euros. Does anyone know the Goyard prices? Also about how much VAT refund should I expect if I pick one up in Paris?

Most importantly, can anyone offer opinions on whether credit card holders are enough and/or about the quality and longevity of the wallets I am considering? I know some of this is covered in the 32 page thread, but I am hoping to have it more focused here on what I am interested in.

Thanks for your thoughts! I don't think I've ever seen (or at least noticed) a FLP or Goyard wallet in real life. But I like the idea of something completely different, as long as it is somewhat practical.

I saw a Goyard at a 2 person GTG a few weeks ago for the first time. It was beautiful, even after I was told the price. I'm was whaaaaaat 😂

I have had the LV Slender in Monogram Eclipse Canvas for about two years now. It has had daily use and has held up very well no marks or damage to the canvas. Only complaint is that the canvas is very stiff. Holding the wallet open with one hand while trying to place bills back in it is a pain. Especially when trying to do it quickly at the counter.
Had a Bellroy slim sleeve for about 5 years before the LV. That was an excellent slim or low profile wallet that broke in nicely and really took a beating.

I just bought a LV pocket organizer which I love. It is taiga leather.

Likewise, we will be in Paris shortly. My wife, who is a Louis junkie, will be buying a couple items. The pricing on all French manufacturers is between 25 and 40 off of US prices after VAT is refunded. VAT is 20% of that amount, if I recall correctly.

Whoa! I hope that's true. It seems this stuff is quite expensive. I do think it would be cool to get it there.

I believe the traditional billfold is called the 6CC. Has room for 6 credit cards and two side pockets and 1 bill compartment.

I bought both the 6CC and the smaller mini bi-fold (3 credit card slots / 2 side pockets).

I had a traditional bi-fold wallet for years but wanted something smaller that I can have in my front pocket, and now my daily is the mini bi-fold which I really enjoy, and I've crammed about 10 cards and carry a few bills.

The blue is the 6CC (4.5"x3.5"). Gray is the mini (4"x2.75").

I have several. LV, Goyard, FLP, Ferragamo, Gucci, custom made pieces.

I have found that I value slim over all other features. A wallet will never compete with a money clip in terms of sleekness.

I just picked this up for 160 bucks and even though they prob made it for 5 dollars I’m extremely pleased.

I carry 2 cc, 1 GOV ID, 1 health care ID, 4 50s. Anything else is superfluous.

I own both the LV and FLP card holders. The LV is the double card holder, and the FLP is the 4CC style. It’s really hard to compare the brands as one is leather the other canvas. The LV leather is fantastic and it’s made well however it’s about $150 more. I cannot say it’s worth the premium but also cannot say it isn’t, it is leather. To me if you want a leather the LV is wonderful and gets you into the “ultra luxury” wallet category without stepping up to Hermès. As far as canvas style FLP is the best I have ever handled and appears very very well made and actually less then most of its competitors. If I had to sell one, I’d keep the FLP

Can confirm that buying in Europe is much cheaper. My wife's bag ended up costing something like $4-500 less after the price in euros + VAT. A Goyard card holder at their Paris store is around 230 dollars and a 6 card long wallet style is about 500, this is after VAT. If you google Goyard prices, there is a super long thread on one of those purse/bag forums that gets continually updated.

FWIW, I have both LV and Goyard and you really can't go wrong with either. Goyard is certainly more "exclusive" and gets more questions. I may pick up a FLP card holder here soon, seems to be on par and lower cost.

I like the Goyard wallets. You do not see them very often and the do not get knocked off as the are a niche brand.

You might not see Goyard frequently in NC but they are actually pretty popular in other areas. As for them not getting knocked off.....I would disagree on that! Like LV and all the other big brands, buy from a boutique or a reputable reseller or you're likely to end up with a fake.

Thanks! Neither one is in the email I received from FLP. Could you post a pic of the wallets open? Also, do you recall roughly the prices? Thanks.

ZClip Lemans. $150

Holds 6 cc/id cards and as much cash as one sane person would carry. And will save you about $350. Once I went to a front pocket clip I never went back.

Go on Grailed or eBay and you’ll see plenty of knockoff Goyard.

Another proponent for money clips here. Haven’t carried a wallet for years and years. Can’t imagine I will ever go back !

just throwing out out there...

I have a very simple Hermes card holder. I keep cash in a front pocket and this (in my back pocket) holds about 6 cards very easily and compactly.

It was about $600. But the quality is really super. I am very happy with it.

While I don’t have the wallet collection you have. I also value a slim wallet that can “do it all”. I bought a Zclip wallet a few months back and I love it way more than I imagined I would. No relation to the company personally.

I’ve had my FLP a few weeks and it’s a beauty. Also gets some great comments.

The wallets were in the 220-260 range I believe.

I only have the mini on me, but if you Google "Faure Le Page 6CC" you'll find some good images, typical 6 credit card holder.

I like the smaller form factor of the mini.

Thanks, that's helpful. They do look nice! I wonder why the email I got omitted both of these options.

My preference is leather LV wallet. I don't use Goyard (or Faure le Page) because don't want a busy print. Hermes is nice, but IMO overly expensive for what it is

I wanted something a little more unique than Louis Vuitton, so I went with the Goyard. Super well made! This holds 8 cards, four on each side, with a divider between bills. It also helps to have a Boutique in my hometown of San Francisco!

They do.

You will get burned if you think there are no fake Goyard. Take a look on Ebay.

Didn't Jocke have issues with a fake Goyard wallet a while ago? I believe the seller was still selling after being reported....

Can’t say enough good things about the #53 slim wallet from Chester Mox. You can but stock colors or have a totally bespoke wallet crafted for you in all sorts of wild colors.

I’ve had mine for over 5 years now and not even so much as a frayed stitch.
