GMT pepsi: 126710BLRO or vintage 1675,16750
Hi, i have been offered a 126710BLRO (2018 GMT Pepsi) brand new for 14500 usd. I am more of a vintage watch guy to be honest and was thinking of getting a 1675 or 16750 which more or less cost the same (a good example no box no papers).
Not really sure though what to get, on the one hand a brand new watch, box, papers superior in quality although a bit overpriced (not sure if will keep current value) and on the other hand a vintage watch holding value which will probably increase in the future. What do you think? |

Buy the one you like, not the one that happens to be popular or valuable or potentially less valuable. Buying for the wrong reasons will lead to disappointment.
If you can't afford to lose money on a watch then it's not a wise purchase. Any of them can depreciate. But, if you buy what you like then you won't care what happens to the market value. You'll focus instead on enjoying it. |

Could not agree more with Padi56. For me I just prefer the more proportioned lugs and dial and less bling that the vintage pieces bring.

no way.
Give me a NOS old Pepsi for 10k and I might think about it. The new Pepsi is 10K. These high prices for the old Pepsi make no sense. all for the sake of a thinner case and lugs?! No, thanks! How about the new Pepsi?: 5 year warranty, new movement with 70 hrs power reserve and no need to service for 10 years. Why buy the old one for 14k?!! I would rather wait.

Thanks for the comments, i agree that even the 16710 would be a better value for money for purchase but the reason i would think to get the new pepsi is the fact that you cannot find easily on the same price a vintage (even 16710) full set in mint condition. The only reason i would go for a new pepsi is if the caliber is far more superior and as a watch would hold value. As for the vintage ones i dont think that they will lose from their value....that never happened...

I have a 126710 and a 16750, love both equally, if you are buying now both prices are at their heights. That is a very good price for a 126710, Nice examples of 16750 are $14k to $20k with full kit.

I’m personally into newer watches over vintage. I like the ceramic bezel, bolder dial and case sizes and new movements. At the moment 14.5 usd is a very good deal on a new blro

This is the first time I have ever agreed with Padi about any “so called” Rolex. I definitely was not in agreement with his feelings about the “so called” new Daytona C. But I do have absolutely no interest in adding a 126710. And I would never part with my 16710. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As someone who has owned all I would take the new 126710 myself. The watch is the perfect modern Rolex IMHO and has quickly become my favorite! As for a 16710, which I also have owned many, including 4 M serials, there is just no comparison for me - the 126710 wins. So to each his own and at the end of the day they are all nice!

Tough one to choose, I think I would go with Padi on this one too.

Well lets put it a little bit differently, i like both but i am thinking also the resale price in the future. Vintage go only upwards (someday they will settle, don't think they will drop though). The new BLRO is from the start overpriced (haven't seen same situation again except the latest rolex one to compare). Will the price as used drop when new pepsi is released? And i mean as a mint full set in 5 years?

I really appreciate the older models.
Wish I kept a few I had. But I’d take the new over the old without a second thought.

If I didn't already own a 16710 which was my first, I love, and will never part with. I would just go with the 126710. Except, I prefer the brushed oyster bracelet on the 16710 with a replacement jubilee as an occasional option vs a permanent fixture.

If wearability is a factor for you, then I think the 126710 would be hard to beat. While the older models are great and their quality and looks are amazing years after their purchase, the 6 digit bracelets are just light years ahead in terms of wearability, comfort, and adjustability. IMO.
Now, if you're going to collect it and have it sit in a safe...then the vintage would probably be the way to go. |

Go with what you like best but both prices are too high for my liking.

This one. I’m not sure how you can talk about value retention on a watch that’s been out less than a year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd go vintage
My vote is for the 16750. You can still find one in pretty good shape for about the same price.
Good luck! David |

I would split the difference and go with a 16710.
Yes it’s a bit of a compromise in the sense that it’s neither true vintage or the most technologically advanced, but you get a watch that, like the 126710, has modern functionality and water resistance, but also gives you some of the feel of a vintage Rolex (smaller case, aluminum bezel, bracelet, etc.). This would also save you $4-6K |
