Will Datejust Gain Vintage/Classic Popularity?

So what you guys think? Will the Datejust gain popularity with the vintage/classic crowd young and old?

This is my first vintage and Im hooked... Not only how it looks but the history on this 1964 Transitional radium/tritium underline dial, Alpha hands, Acrylic glass, fluted bezel, dark indicies, deadly accurate 1560 movement/Non-hacking/Non Quick-set and on a vintage strap...

Post a pic of yours... I want to see some beautiful pieces that you guys will make me want to buy lol

My 60s vintage datejust 1601 with dauphine hand and white gold Coin bezel.

The 36mm is just perfect and I like how it wear on the wrist.

And great datejust you have there. Congrats on your first datejust!

And 16030 engine tuned bezel tapestry dial.

You have Alpha Hands, Dauphine hands look different and whats a white gold coin bezel? Thats a fluted bezel you have... What year is your 1601 just curious cause you have an Exclamation dial...

Both beautiful, liking the tapestry dial...

The Datejust IS very popular with vintage collectors. As is the Day Date and the Oysterdate...they have ardent fans.

That’s a coin edge (machine turned) bezel...

I doubt they will ever be as popular to collectors as Subs or GMTs. Just too small and not sporty enough for many people. I love my 1600 and would not mind adding a 1603 somewhere down the line.

They were certainly made in larger volumes than the steel tool watches; and with the exception of the DayDate don’t have historical human achievement associations or celebrity associations.

Still they’re a great size with lots of variety and variations to make them collectible

In my opinion they are far more elegant than the sport models and more versatile. The sports mode have gotten a little garish and cliche. The new Datejusts I would argue are better than the sports range. The Datejust is also the quintessential Rolex and the most iconic design. Rolex sure seems to think so given the fact that a new Datejust retails for more than almost all of the sports models. I would also argue they are the most popular Rolex by far but they were also produced in larger quantities.

As Colin has mentioned, it is coin edge bezel ( slightly different from the normal fluted bezel. The coin edge bezel is only appeared on early datejust. Mine is from early 60s if I remember correctly.

Here are few more shots :).

My first ever Rolex, vintage or modern, is a 16014. I think it's more timeless than the Subs or any "sports" models.

the DJ has always been a classic, just the value in general has been stable. Except for a few exceptions, I don’t see it going up anytime soon.

I blame it on autoconnect.

Very nice! The smooth bezel, oyster bracelet and domed crystal just go so well together. I was inspired to do this years ago by others who had done the swap.

Another couple of shots, just because.

Because so many are in circulation, and with increased awareness among owners, the DJs should be a great vintage option for years to come.

And for the most part they are very accessible financially.

Can it be that the 36mm size sets people off on collecting it? The size is still considered small by today’s standards and my might make it less collectible compared to the 40mm sports Rolexes...that together with the large amount of Datejusts produced over the years...I hope I am wrong here since my collection is majorly 36mm but anyway...when people comment on my DD:s or DJ:s they normally say-“Nice watch but pretty small, ha?...”

I’ve completely forgotten which crystal this is. I called Edvi when he was at ABC WW and he told me which tropical crystal would fit. He sent it to me and I had my local watchmaker install it.
