Icon4 Stolen watch in London #UPDATE

Hello Everyone.
I have posted a thread few days back regarding someone who stolen my watch by force in London. Will let you know how did this happen. On that day i went out with family and friends and when i am done and ready to get bsck home i decided to take a walk since its only 10 mins walking to home from where i have dropped my friend at his hotel. All the eay back to home people and cars are moving so i have reached to an entry where it is near by home. I have entered the road and no one was there and after few seconds i have heard steps sound behind me so i turned my head and relise something wrong is happening so i took a u-turn to get back to the road after that the guy is walking towards me and triend to push me around the corner. I tried to walk away piecefully but couldnt do it so i ran away and what he did is he followed me at coughted me and had a fight for few seconds and push me at the ground amd pulled my watch and ran away. He was driving a black mercedes C class and the location is Clarendon Place W2, London which is near Hyde park

My watch is AP 15300 Black dial “Steel”
Case no H58023-16030

Pls if anyone can help reach me through DM

Have you sent a copy of the police report to AP?

You need to ask for a copy of the police report.

Correct - and you must go down to the station to get a printed copy. There is a small fee but it is usually waived for the victim.

Then make copies as you’ll need it for AP, the insurance claim and hopefully to identify you are the rightful owner if it is recovered.

If you didn’t know/remember your watch’s serial number when reporting the theft, you should update the police report with that information.

Much luck in getting it back.

If this happens again, I hope not, grab his finger(s) and bend them back and break them. Follow up with a kick, then simply walk away feeling good.

Stolen watch in London #UPDATE

There we are folks - London, the shithole.

I commute in to London everyday, and honestly, I cannot wait to get back home to my rural home of an evening.

I don’t know why these days law-abiding decent folk want to reside there with so many low-grade inhabitants.

Crime is getting worse and the government is losing control. Policing is an absolute joke.

Sorry about your experience and your stolen watch.

Scumbags.

I'm so sorry to hear... but you shouldn't have fought... this could have ended much much worse.

I hope you get your watch back and that criminal goes to prison.

Sorry to here this.

Really it isn't worth fighting back unless you are sure the guy(s) don't have any weapons on them (which you really wont know). Pretty awful people out there - some will readily hurt someone terribly without hesitation and even murder if necessary. The UK is soft on crime and is too tolerant on lots of things. Its in our makeup. They should find em and lock em up for 5 years at the very least but that will never happen here.......

My son was mugged for his iPhone by three men when he was 16 or 17. He fought back, got beat up but managed to keep his iPhone. I felt kind of proud that he was brave to do that but the outcome could have been far worse than a few bruises. I told him that fighting back when the odds are stacked against you is not a worthwhile call - hand it over and walk away.

Unfortunate to hear this.
Just like the others have said, it could have ended up worse if you try to pick a fight.
I know a friend's sibling who ended up losing his life trying to fight thieves over his watch and phone.
It simply is not worth it. I'm sorry this happened, but i'm glad you are okay.
Always devastating to hear such stories as a watch collector that travels around the world and loves wearing his watches in every city.

I agree that English law, and coppers, are too worried about political correctness. So, you had a one on one, do him and don’t play patsy for him. Or you could have turned around suddenly and yelled some profanity. The thing is he’s very nervous and does not expect you to come back at him.

OP, that’s horrible - and really frightening. It sounds like you were clearly targeted.

I’d agree with others here that trying to be a hero could very well have gone horribly wrong and resulted in the loss of more than your watch

Making judgements about how “safe” a place is based on anecdotes is prone to being misleading - but I will say that I see way more threads here about stolen watches in London than in, say, New York

That having been said, I also got the sense (again - full caveats - observation, not supported by statistics!) that there was more wrist candy on display in central London than in NYC. I saw almost as many APs and PPs being worn in my recent two week vacation there as i would have in the same time in HK

Easier said than done in the moment.

A watch can be replaced

Kind of agree with this but it’s difficult to predict how you’d react until you’re faced with this type of situation. Initially you tried to run which was the correct

Ridiculous statement. 9 million people everyday don’t get attacked.

Forums (fora?) such as TRF will attract reports such as these for obvious reasons and the press are hot on these stories as most come with bystanders smartphone images and it’s hot news.
London has always had its various issues and I’ve been working in the Centre for 25 plus years; whether terrorist threats, robberies, mugging etc. Policing is perhaps a little soft and our liberal lefties worry too much about human rights etc etc but there are worse places.
The week before I was away, during the hot spell I used the Tube a few times. Bearing in mind many people in short sleeves, I counted in 1 carriage, 4 Rolex, a couple of other Swiss timepieces and a few diamonds that could buy a luxury car!!

It has its problems, but it’s still a great City.

I totally agree with Rootbeer, I live in Yorkshire surrounded by countryside but I love visiting London, it’s one of the best cities in the world, according to ‘bestcities.org’ it’s ranked #1 and other websites have it ranked in the top 5 in the world.

I know a couple of people who’ve been mugged for their watches, one of the guys had a rose gold offshore stolen but his perfectly styled long blonde £100 haircut made him more of a target than his location.....imo.

Sorry to hear that it was a targeted and prolonged attack. Looks like criminals are smart about watches now, not just about Rolexes, so we all have to be more aware.

Usually it is best just to give up your watch, but if you are being attacked not just mugged and need to defend yourself, try to put your fingers in the attacker's eyes.

Or weaponise your house keys by attaching them to a kubotan and use the weapon as a flail aiming for the attackers eyes. It’ll do a lot more damage than using your fingers.

Sense at last. The OP was attacked in an area populated in the Summer months by rich Middle Eastern families. If you visit, you’ll see the Ferrari’s, Lambos etc everywhere and of course the young boys with the big watches. This was even documented in a TV programme led by residents of Kensington and Knightsbridge complaining about noise from the cars racing around all night! No one deserves to be attacked, but move one street off and into a quiet road and you’re a target.

When I was in London in May, I saw a ton of Rolexes. I'd be riding the Tube and I'd see Rolexes left, right, back and front. Lots of Daytonas and Subs in particular. APs were plentiful everywhere too.

I didn't feel unsafe at all wearing my Daytona, but granted, I don't journey into areas that are secluded and unknown to me while flashing it.

One thing that did shake me a little was the nice rep at Wempe warned both me and my friend (who brought his Aquanaut with him) that we should be extremely careful wearing this stuff around London because of an increase in watch robberies.

Horrendous, I would have thought that trying to run away was the best option.

Listen, I am not interested in knowing how long you’ve been frequenting London etc etc.

This is my opinion, and I will state it. You have your option, so state it, but don’t quote me and tell me my statement is ridiculous.

I am well aware of the crime stats and for reference, myself and many I know all trot around London with seriously expensive wrist wear every day without issue, but it happens, regardless.

London is a great city, you’ll notice that I made reference to some of the inhabitants, not the location itself.

9 million people every day don’t get attacked, that’s correct, but the ones who wear expensive watches are ALL targets.

So, i guess it’s a little like you claiming that there are Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s being driven EVERYWHERE in Kensington. Clearly not, a tiny, tiny few who are, stand out from the rest, so you notice them more. A little like the criminals who notice the nice wrist wear on those out of the 9 million.

But thanks for your input.
