Recommendations for a daily beater

I seem to have a problem, when it comes to watches- everything I fall in love with tends to be way above a "disposable" watch price point.

I basically have my holy grail watch, I've been wearing it everyday.

But I've been looking around to find a quality watch, that isn't quartz, that looks sporty, and I can wear without any fears or worries of damaging it... or losing it somehow (like getting robbed or something).

My problem is that almost every watch I go "ohhhhhhhhhhhh I'd wear that into that ground!" I find out it costs 4k.

Ideally, I don't want to spend more than 1,500 for a watch I can kick around. Initially I loved the Omega Speedmaster, especially since it can be buffed to make it look like new. But that definitely doesn't fall into "idc what happens to this watch territory". But my goodness, that thing is beautiful.

Maybe I just need to change my expectations since they seem to be mostly unrealistic.

Any recommendations for what to look for?

Seiko, Hamilton are two that come to mind.

Yep Seiko would be your best starting point given criteria laid out above.

If you want a mechanical beater watch then they are probably the best first place to look and expand from there if nothing grabs you.

Seiko's are very fun pieces to collect and wear daily. Take a look through the sub-forum and see if any of those catch your eye.

Maybe give a look to a used Speedmaster 'Automatic'.
Less expensive than the 'Pro', with pretty much the same presentation.

This is my suggestion too as that’s what I wear as beater now.

That Seiko even has a day date function! I think I may have found the beater grail!

You could probably pick up a nice pre-worn TAG-Heuer for that kind of money.

1) Seiko- 40-50 variants of different sizes and prices. SPB051/053 or MarineMaster 300 (SBDX001/SBDX017) would be my choices.
2) Oris: Diver 65 or the Aquis line
3) Longines: Conquest/HydroConquest line
4) Squale: 50 and 60 ATMOS lines (not the 30 ATMOS homage line)
5) Sinn EZM line: probably the most expensive (You can get the EZM 3 for around $1800 new) but dang, they are cool and well worth the money.

Seiko turtle srp77x there is a lot of variation. Its good quality for the price and automatic. Go to a nearby Seiko dealer and try it on first so that you can choose which variation you like. Looking at pictures wont do justice you need to go and wear it to see if its for you.

I wear my GMT Everyday. It’s just a little over 2 months old, see the scratches.

One of my first good watches.

Totally solid. High quality. Great price point.

I do not baby any of my watches, but the go-to if I'm out hiking or any other high-adventure is expected, is an older Explorer II.

If I'm welding something, working on the car, or digging in the dirt, I would put my watch in my pocket, doesn't matter what it is.
