spending watch money on other things

with the current none supply of Rolex SS watches I though it might be interesting to see what else people are spending their watch money on?

with money I had earmarked for a Daytona and maybe a GMT over the last 10 months I have got my private pilots licence and bought a share in an aeroplane.

I am starting to think that this was not a bad thing, so thanks Rolex for making it difficult for me to purchase

n.b this new hobby has had me looking at a load of flieger watches however!!!!!!

I had planned to buy a few more Rolex's this year. Decided that I dont want to pay premium on any watch as I feel that me begging to spend thousands is just ridiculous I have decided to invest the money instead.

* Another investment property (the watch fund contributed)
* Long term blue chip shares
* Spent some on my other expensive hobby which is race cars.

I have purchased a IWC and another Speedy Pro after foolishly selling my last one. Some great vacations and a lot of golf, new clubs also. I am done with Rolex and their BS supply issues. I guess I can also thank Rolex for making me see the light.

Man... am I the only one still spending money on Rolex?

That being said you know the golden rule. When you can’t buy a Rolex, just buy a Patek!

Nope.

I did cash out a few watches to help fund my mid-life crisis...I mean corvette.

To be honest though, the non-supply has nothing to do with whether I buy a watch or not. I have kind of reached the law of diminishing returns with Rolex and lately Tudor has been calling my name.

Which works out well for my bank account too.

Couldn’t buy a Daytona so I bought a speedy. Also the experience at the Omega Boutique was amazing. It was the total opposite of how Rolex ADs have been.

Not spending.

Instead saving.

Maybe about 8 years ago I spent my 1680 fund on a new motorbike which still have/ no regrets. However, didn’t stop me from restarting the fund & replenishing with OT/ eBay selling etc. Managed to get the 1680 a few years later than planned ;.)

Good for you - congrats on the license !! Worth checking out IWC for some pilot watches. Love my petit prince chronograph.

I think in order for something to change there needs to be a shift in the buying publics behaviour.

They are. I was able to reserve one when they launched. Got a number in the 0030s range.
