Icon5 Rolex DD Roman Numbers YG vs WG on only watch

Hello everyone,

I am going to buy the Day Date 40 in either yellow gold with the white Roman Dial or White gold with Blue Roman Dial and I wanted to reach out and hear you thoughts before i make my purchase.

1) Would you buy either YG or WG and why? I am worried that the YG may be too much bling for me and may make a statement that it not me.

2) I am a finance professor and I am going to reward myself for turning 50. I currently own a Batman, and 39mm Exporer I and a Datejust 41 with Silver dial. I will be selling all 3 of my watches and the resale value seems very low on the DJ 41 about 60% of what I paid. The DD 40 will be my only watch.

Is the Resale value higher on YG vs the WG? I hope I never have to sell but after a few years, I sometimes want something else.

3) What percent discount should I push for my AD that is realistic on PM?

Thank you in advance for you thoughts and I am so excited to have found my only watch for the next 10 year or so. I am really excited about the Day Date 40, I always thought the DD 2 seems to chunky for my taste.

Thank you in advance :+)

personally i believe your first day date should be yg, especially since you already had a datejust. it might be a bit too flashy at times for your work environment though as you said, but generally most people don't notice. which one do you like more? with this kind of purchase i would go with what you like instead of what you feel is more appropriate. if you go with wg because you think its understated when you really wanted the yg you will end up flipping it pretty soon

as for the discount, i would aim for around 15-20%

Given that gold is so strongly associated with the colour yellow in the human psyche, I suspect that every time you look at your white gold DD, you would be reassuring yourself that it is not Oyster Steel but 18ct gold.

Resale on yg is higher than wg

Wg will seem like ss in most pple eyes

Go for the yg with the white roman, its clean easy on the eyes very legible for when they eyes get weaker

For me it can only be ER sundust dial with stripe motif. It’s 2018.

I love the WG personally. As far as resale, I could care less...I'm not going to be selling it anytime soon.

As far as looking like ss, that only matters to people whose concern is impressing other people. Which shouldn't matter to you, if you buy the watch you like, as opposed to what everybody else likes.

Finally, I wouldn't sell all 3 of your ss collection...keep at least one steel model on hand. If you can't do that, I really wouldn't advise you to go down this road.
