I made a mistake

Hate to admit it but. I DFU'd.

For years I had a two tone (SS/Gold) Submariner. Loved that watch but always pined for a SS Daytona.

So I sold off the Sub and went and got a white faced SS Daytona.

Ever been in a place where you finally go out and get the thing you have been dreaming of and are let down? That is what happened to me. I miss the Sub it just brought a sense of joy when I checked the time. Not there with the Daytona.

I think I'll just do what I should and unload the Daytona and find either a TT or SS Submariner.

Anyone else go through this?

Anyone who flips can have regrets, what's to stop you from flipping back?

Easy one to fix. As long as you didn’t pay over msrp for the Daytona.

Of course. Grass is always greener. There’s worse mistakes you could have made. And when you get that two tone back I bet you’ll have a better appreciation of it.

Good luck!

I made a mistake

I’ve done that and did exactly what you’re contemplating.

Now have this 5-digit beauty.

If you’d bought the black Daytona 500, I would have offered you a way out of the dilemma.

Easily fixed. Should be no problem to flip your Daytona for a Bluesy.

Well it didn’t change your Birthday or make you instantly left handed. You have a very easy to flip piece and want one that should be easy to source. Very unDFUable.

Really surprised...I love the Daytona much more than the sub.

Different tastes

Luckily You will be able to fix it at minimum to zero losses.

It’s funny you say this because I almost sold my Hulk for a SS Daytona. And I am so glad I did not.

Easy fix. Sell the Daytona and buy a Sub. I have tried the love the Daytona but always end up flipping. Just not for me. Die hard Sub guy.

It's funny, or actually not, the lack of sports models available has really put a squeeze on people that go to AD's to try on different pieces to see if they sing to them. I bought my SD43 sight unseen, but I had enough questions answered so that I knew it was the right move for me. That said it's not easy to track down a SS model before you buy from a grey/used dealer or get the call, I feel for people, I really do!

Luckily the Daytona holds value and goes up in $$$. You can easily flip back.

I too felt the same way with a Daytona. Had a white face 11650 but never could bond with it

Hard to know what you really like unless you proverbially let it go and measure it up against replacements. True of anything.

This is a great argument for not flipping and having more watches than you know what to do with across a wide range of styles, vintages, and prices.

Another rule that fits my needs very well is to set a limit on how much I will spend on any watch and live with it.

There are watches that are within my reach if I only plop down another $500-$1000, but I don't do that.

This is just a way of limiting the number of situations of remorse that I'm likely to endure.

Buy watches that you can keep, even if the new wears off sooner that you might have wished.

It's kind of like when the infatuation in a relationship fades, only to reveal a much deeper, abiding love that is more gratifying for both parties.

There must have been something you liked about the Daytona or you wouldn't have bought it.

I say keep the watch and reacquire the Sub when your finances allow.

Then you'll have some latitude, including selling the Daytona, if you just don't bond over time.

In the past I have had several Rolex at a time but these days I'd rather not.I already have too much stuff.

I guess I'll sell the Daytona on the internets and then head to the jewelry mart in downtown L.A. and go in search of a Sub.

Of course first I'll have to decide between a TT or a SS sub. TT's beauty has always caught my eye but SS Subs are so subtle and timeless which I appreciate.
