AP Diver - Orange or Yellow

Hi All,

Been looking at getting an AP Diver and i have narrowed it down to the following:

15706AU - Yellow
15707CE - Orange

I am not exactly sure what is the main difference other than the Yellow has carbon forged casing. They are both ceramic bezels, correct? Are they both retail version or boutique only version? Is one more expensive than the other? Which is more limited?

What would be your recommendation?

Cheers.

Why the ceramic orange..? Is it harder to get and more sought after? Is this available only at boutiques?

Both are no longer in production so they are not the easiest to locate but it can be done through secondary markets. I would go ceramic.

Few things off he top of my head

Forged carbon case (AP pioneered the use in the watch industry)
Yellow with slightly different 12 bezel marker
Original cut dial
Solid case back
Rubber crowns
Non linear brushed ceramic bezel
Normal production but still not as many as others references
Can wear but VERY durable
Retail was around $27k

Ceramic
Orange
Stamped dial
Open caseback
Ceramic crowns
Liner brushing
Boutique only with what is thought to be around 500 produced or less
Can crack/chip but very scratch resistant and shouldn’t show wear
Retail was around $22k

I’ve used the FC as a daily beater for over 5 years and other than slight wear on the crowns it’s perfect.

You really can’t go wrong with either. I prefer the cut dial and yellow color of the FC. I also like that AP pioneered the use of FC in watch making. With current prices of the ceramic diver around $23k I would rather just pay a few $K more and get the anthracite 44mm ceramic for around $27k.

I chose the FC diver. I prefer the yellow and the carbon case is really beautiful, the grain of the carbon that comes through in the sun is awesome. I find the all black ceramic a little boring but do like the brushed bezel on it over the rainfall on FC. As mentioned above, AP pioneered the use of carbon in watchmaking, so that is pretty cool too.

Either of them are amazing versions of the diver.

When I read the title I thought you were deciding between the novelty colour options of late.

Would be great to see more pics of the FC version showing the case finishing in more detail.

Having owned both...and currently only owning ceramic..I prefer ceramic. Finishing is insane. Display caseback...though the Forged Carbon has an amazing dial like the first gen diver..

I prefer the CE, altho if the Yellow FC had the same crisp brushed bezel finish as CE then it would be very close.

Maybe AP would swap the bezels for you, esp if the new 42 CE ROOs have the updated bezel.

Great idea!

Here are a couple and a dial shot. It loses some quality unfortunately when i upload directly from Tapatalk for some reason. I can upload to Flickr and post again to get them more crisp.

Wow, V25V those are amazing photos of the yellow FC..! This is making the decision so hard.

The price difference on the FC and CE is approximately $3K-$4K with the orange being more expensive.

I am curious, why was the retail on the CF more expensive than the CE if the CE was a boutique edition?

Likely because carbon is a more expensive material and more intensive process to create. It's made out of one piece of carbon block, hence Forged.

There was a really good thread on TZ about it. See below.

Awesome !! Thank you for posting. I hadn’t actually fully appreciated just how nice the FC is visually until now.

Looks to be the same bevelling as the other material divers, I wasn’t sure if they would have been able to polish the edges somehow of the FC like the ceramic but it looks very very cool with the mottled fibre effect.

Thanks once again to everyone for your input and photos. Very helpful as always.

After much consideration, I decided to pick-up the Yellow FC diver. The watch was in superb condition as it spent majority of its time as a safe queen. It came with a spare yellow rubber strap as well, so was a bonus. Here is the watch.

The Orange CE looks stunning as well but that will wait for the time being. This will be my weekend watch for now.

Very cool choice !!

I have always really liked the look of the ceramic and thought that would be the only watch I would ever fleetingly consider trading my ST Diver for. But now after seeing the detail pics of the FC; I may have a new favourite :)

Curious - what is the weight of the FC with rubber strap ?

My 15710 is 173g.

Congrats on the FC diver! Wearing mine right now too. Most comfortable and durable watch I've ever owned and still gets the most wrist time.

I am not sure of the exact weight difference but I recall when I held my FC for the first time, thinking how light it was compared to my steel Offshores. Its significant.
