Icon5 DateJust 31 - will travel, where to get best price?

Hi all

I'm new to the Rolex world so trying to understand the best strategy for buying a DateJust31.

Specific watch I'm looking for:
- Ref 178273
- Jubilee band
- Fluted bezel
- Diamonds with champagne face

I am located in Zurich and local AD price is 11,000 CHF but I won't get tax back.

If I buy from London Heathrow, they said they would take the tax off upon purchase as long as I have a flight out to a non EU country which would suit me. Price: 8600 GBP, 7166 GBP after tax discount. Then I would pay import tax into Switzerland. Total cost would be cheaper than in Zurich.

I'm wondering if there is a better strategy here. I'm leaning towards buying only from an AD as I don't want any issues with fakes, etc.

I'm even open to buying a used watch (with all paperwork, boxes, etc)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Buy it where you live and just pay what it costs.

Don’t know what your import taxes will be but sounds to me any savings is insignificant as compared with cost of travel to another country and your time.
Only way I would do that is if it is the only place that watch is available, which btw, I am doing this coming Friday as I fly to pick up my Pepsi.

Exactly.

Amazing what some will go through to acquire a watch. The cost of the trip far outweighs any benefit at all.

Go to an airport and get the tax off it. You won’t have any problems with dealers having stock of this model

This isn’t true. I saved around £1,000 getting my dj 41 from an airport even after the expense of travel etc

A DJ31 is cheaper.

There’s travel, accommodation and your time.
Also add in if something goes wrong it’s nice having a local AD to be there for you.

Finally, in a market where relationship is key, buying your DJ locally could be a very wise move.

Some people only see the $$$$$$

I bet for that model you can get a good deal online from a trusted seller and save yourself the hassle of travel!

Call the AD at Heathrow airport (Watches of Switzerland). Tell them what you are looking for, ask their price. They might have it. They tell me they CAN get special requests for the less popular models which normally sit in a window (read as: DJs but not subs), and that they often know the 'less popular' inventory coming to them in a few weeks (but NO advanced notice of popular models). They're very nice. But since you're an EU citizen I think you still pay VAT even if you are flying out of the EU? Brexit isn't finalized and I'm already so confused about EU vs UK stuff.

I checked the AD at LHR - they have the watch but I can't get up to London before the Oct 1st Rolex price hike and unfortunately they do not take orders over the phone! btw, Switzerland is not in the EU
