Do you think this forum has the same level of info as ADs from Rolex ?
Hello gents,
We all know Rolex is a very secretive company and do not disclose any info with the outside expect of course very limited info to ADs. I wanted to know if you think this forum has in general more detailed information than ADs get from Rolex or if ADs (on average) know more than what we share here. |

we know more. we take different tidbits of information from several AD's to get a clearer picture. many AD's don't know anything.

I think the forum in general has more knowledge than any AD about any Rolex watch.
On new releases and up-comings, we are all blind as a bat. Only Rolex Geneva knows. Always trivial when you see a sales employee make certain claims. |

Based on the absurd things I have heard from some ADs, I’d agree that the forum collectively has more info. Me excluded.

This is a tricky question to answer. Generally speaking the forum is a much much greater source for knowledge than almost any AD on earth.
That said, AD reps have obviously made some ridiculous comments, which would lead you to believe the don’t know much. But as far as getting info from Rolex I’d be willing to guess that management and owners have relatively good intel on what’s going on at Rolex. Of course they don’t know everything, but I think they know more about what’s going on behind closed doors than we do here on the forum. Lastly, When was the last secretive information post/thread here on the forum that received warm replies haha. Those types of posts are almost immediately shot down, and the first response is, “no one knows what’s going on”. |

From a experience and owners perspective, we have significantly more. So much more that this is a valid source of information that even dealers that are plugged in acknowledge.

Thanks for the reply. I think there are 2 kinds of people in ADs:
- salespeople who are order taker and sometimes are interested in watches with a good level of technical knowledge. These people don't know much about what's happening behind Geneva's closed doors and the forum has far more info - owners who to go Basel to meet with Rolex and discuss allocation. I would tend to think they probably hear interesting stuff than may (or may no) come up on this forum. My question related more to the second point, ADs owners, and if they indeed have more insights than what we read here. One could think that there are so many ADs on Earth that any insightful info would be immediately blown up on forums. |

I say it is a mix, maybe 60/40 to the forum, depending on the AD. My AD has given me some fairly decent intel, but there have been several instances in which I have offered them the same with knowledge gleaned from this forum.

In most cases they are Jewelers, not Rolex shops. They are more interested in going to find out about their bread-and-butter lines like Mikimoto pearls and diamond rings. They don't send anybody to Basel. Exceptions are the big corporations without any face, like Ben Bridge and the like. They send corporate buyers to make their orders, they don't pay any attention to the mechanics, just the sales. AD staff are sales staff with minimal overview training unless they take it upon themselves to learn something. The trained watchmaker at an AD is the only place I would go for any technical observations. The new boutiques may be an exception - but they are still only there for the sales commission.

Most AD don’t even know the watch they are selling.

I’ve never met any salesperson that has more knowledge than me and that’s in large part thanks to this forum. Of course there are exceptions I’m sure but I’ve yet to meet one.
