Hey everyone, I'm trying to get in to collecting watches and would love some insight into what watch I should buy as my first. Since it would be my only watch for a little while I'm looking for something versatile and decently low-key. I'm a student, so I don't have a great budget. I was hoping $200-$300. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

In that price range a Seiko sports watch is the best you can get in my opinion.

Have a look in the Seiko subforum here for some inspiration, a classic SKX007 or one of the new turtles is my suggestion.

Seiko is probably the way to go. Could go divers or maybe sarb033 or Hamilton khaki's pre owned in your range I think. Can't really go wrong with those. Either way good on you in deciding to join the world of watches and collecting.Welcome.

I would find an SKX007J and buy a jubilee for it. Really any Seiko at that price is solid. I think you can get a Hamilton Khaki field for that price as well. The best part about watches is there is something great at every price range, especially with seiko. Timex has been doing some cool stuff as well... I like that new Marlin

Agree w Seiko skx007 w 3rd party bracelet (I have mine on a strapcode oyster), but would also look at Orient mako USA II . If you want a chrono, check out Tissot prs200.

Definitely go for a Seiko automatic. I'd recommend he SKX for a sport watch or a SARB for more of a dressy watch.

I absolutely agree that Seiko is the way to go and do yourself a favor and get a mechanical movement.

Any Seiko 5 would be an excellent choice and also read up on the history of Seiko so that you'll be well-prepared when some jerk tells you that Seiko watches are less that worthy.

I have two Seiko 5 watches and they are among my favorite.

When you have more money, you can go right up the Seiko line and have a great collection of fine watches.

I'd shoot for a crisp Rolex Daytona 6262. Should be in your 200-300K range.
