Dilemma - Would Like Advice on a Trade

Hello TRFers,

So I have a bit of a dilemma regarding a trade I may complete tomorrow. I currently have an 116610LV from June 2018. I've been going back and forth on the watch since purchasing it from an AD for months but I've decided that the color just isn't for me. I wanted an LN but apparently that watch was more difficult to source at the time (crazy I know)

One watch that has piqued my interest is the Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer, pictured below. I was offered a trade on a LNIB Complete set along with an OEM Alligator Strap and Deployment Buckle. This watch would also come with $6500 on as well, which I will put toward an 116610LN.

Would you all make this trade? I think the Omega is a great looking watch and I've wanted a Speedmaster/Mechanical Chronograph for a while, plus the cash on top isn't bad as well.

Thanks in advance for your insight

Buy what you like, who cares what others think! :-)

And no, I would NOT make that trade.

Absolutely not.

The Omega will be a forgotten reference in short order. It's not a moon watch, so it will be redesigned and lost in the shuttle..

Pass

That was my biggest concern that the Omega would be worth 1000s less a year from now.

I appreciate the beauty of the 116610LV, even though I don't feel compelled to own one, but if I had one, I wouldn't part with it for anything in the world.

I would sit on the Rolex until such time as i have conclusively made up my mind as to what i would be happier to wear/own seeing as you have no real connection to the Hulk.

Fleetlord makes a pwerfull argument against the Speedy variant you mention.

If i were truely entertaining the possibility of owning a Speedy there are far better options available to you with no down sjde compared with the current proposal.
I suggest you peruse the forum as ther has been another thread or two recently along similar lines containing some pertinent responses.

Good Luck.

Omega plus $6.5k, sounds like a good trade. I’d actually buy the sub 114060.

I would have said go for it if these are the two watches you really want, but as you mentioned the resale on the Omega that doesn't look like a keeper.

Have to agree with this.

I love that omega reference. Who cares if it gets lost in the shuffle. If you like it and want to wear it, get it.

The money aspect appears fair. But if you are thinking to sell it before you get it. Maybe not.

My thoughts tho are that Omega watches, while amazing, are already at their bottom. If you are buying low, you can’t lose much.

I would skip the Omega and if the LV isn't for you find someone to trade for an LN as that seems to be what you really want. Shouldn't be hard as the LV is so desirable, you'll probably get a couple grand on top of an LN trade too I would think.

I'm not really crazy about the LV-C, and I wouldn't even begin to think about making this trade.

I own both of those. I cant underscore how nice that model speedy is. Many people are referencing it from speedys of the past, which I found clinky, weak and kind of blah. They've never seen the 44.25 Speedy racing in hand. Its not even close to those.

$6500 cash on top of that so youre into it at $5k? If you really don't like the LVC, thats a damn good number on that speedy.

I'd be A LOT happier with it on the bracelet though....I think i'd first find out what it would take to acquire the bracelet.

Both the Omega bracelet and gator strap did not cut it for me on my moon watch, and so I currently have it on the nato...

Consider holding on to the Hulk as it will be difficult to buy back (at a sensible price) should you change your mind... I regretted selling my batman...although I was lucky enough to find another one.

Wear the watch you want to see on your wrist. Forget the investment potential or the name on the case. Entirely your decision which only depends on what you feel every time you look down at your wrist.

As a 19 year old Kid who went looking for an Omega and accidentally bought a Rolex, I am most Happy with my Sub. Astronauts flight watch being an Omega. I was surprised at how many Astronauts visited my work place at the Launch Pad wearing a Rolex. A Life long friend that flew SR-71 Black Birds was happy with his Breitlings. The Choice is Yours! Enjoy.

Trade the Hulk for the LN and some money in your pocket. You can buy an Omega any time you feel like it.

i wouldn't do the trade. you could sell the LV and wait for an LN. they do come out more than LV's. As for the omega, you can get most omegas any day.

I wouldn't trade. If I wanted the Omega I would save and buy, not chop in a Rolex Sub date for it. Unless the Hulk really revolts/disappoints you, I'd hang on to it, because you may end up buying it twice. Stranger things have happened. But it's your life and your money. Do what YOU want. And if you're not sure at the moment, do nothing.

If you always wanted a Speedy I would stick to getting the Moonwatch (Either Hesalite or the Sapphire version). And you'll probably get more cash on top of what you are being offered right now.

I've always been an Omega and Speedy fan, but there is only one watch that sings to me.

...

It was the first high-end watch I've purchased and never regret it. However, cautionary tale from me end. I've grown to like other brands a lot more. Rolex, AP, etc. Each brand has their respective differences but I've been turned off quiet a bit with all the various LEs, non-LEs, reissues, etc from Omega. I haven't worn my Speedy much as a result.

Oh. Then definitely.

I am going to guess the majority of folks in this thread don’t really know the omega, it’s specs, or have seen it in person.

This isn’t your grand dads speedy. The dial, the ceramic bezel, the micro adjust. The movement specs are ridiculous.

So let's talk about this...

As many have said, the Omega is a great watch, with great quality and specs...

But, if your "biggest" concern is that the Omega would be worth thousands less a year from now, then this trade isn't for you as that is what will happen with that Omega reference..

If you have no concern for resale, then the trade is fine. Up to you at this point
