Hi

I'm looking to buy my first luxury watch. I'm looking at either a Tudor Black Bay Steel or a Tudor Black Bay 58.

I was just going to drop into Raffi and just buy one but then I started reading about people negotiating for deals at these official dealers. Should I be trying to negotiate?

How about negotiating for the BB 58 which just released? I'm not sure how well it's actually selling, but if so, how can I approach it? I've only just started by emailing Raffi and the store in Yorkville about the availability of these pieces.

Welcome to the forum!

Best would be to go in to one of the ADs in person and chat with them in person rather than through email.

Yes always best to chat in person. Since you are going to buy your first luxury watch you may be able tot get a small discount maybe 5%. The BB 58 costs what, $4000 so 5% is only $200 off....just go in and chat with them and see if they will even give you a small discount...GL

I wouldn't even ask unless my pockets were loaded and ready to pull the trigger on the spot. Cash talks but good luck on getting a discount on the 58

It may be hard to get a discount on a brand new (so to speak) release. The worst thing they can say is no, so worth a try!

For a newly released and hot piece, don't expect a discount. You can always ask - Doesn't hurt to ask, but if it's available, you're already in luck, so make sure you can pull the trigger on it if they present it there and then. Otherwise it's a waitlist.

Check other stores as well and see who will give you a better deal.
I found the salespeople at Royal de Versailles on Bloor Street much more helpful and knowledgable than those at Raffi.
I was able to get a discount on a Rolex Datejust there last year.

Have cash/card in hand ready to spend a let them now that you are there to buy and not waste their time. Always ask for a discount and expect to get one of at least 5%. On very popular models you might not be able to get a discount but at least get some trinkets. Lastly, never be afraid to walk away if you are not happy with the deal. Never lose perspective that ultimately the purchase of a watch is a "want". Those sales people need your cash to feed their family...

Last time I was there in Toronto (my old hometown before the current one), there were some nice ADs in Yorkdale mall, including a Raffi that was HUGE! Can't remember if they sold Tudor or not.

Always ask for a discount. Try to negotiate, no harm in it. Do not bring up the fact that you can buy it online for whatever price. They will start to tell you about how you can never trust an online etc., and makes them stronger in their pricing position. Try to compare their prices with other ADs in the area. Drop by at a few, watch shopping is fun.

From my experience you aren't going to have much luck with discounts at either Raffi locations or La Difference. Humbertown and RDV are willing to work with you on a discount. You're not likely to get a deal on the BB58 since it's new. The basic BB shouldn't be a problem.

But don't focus on a discount. Focus more on getting the watch you really want. If you end up paying retail. Get them to throw in some swag.

If you do not know what watch you want, then you are not ready for your first luxury watch. It should be a watch you are 100% sure you want, otherwise you should wait.

Don't email anybody. Go to the watch shop in person and tell them what you want.

I am in the area. Definitely drop by and talk to someone / check out the watches. For Tudor I would recommend Knar in Oakville or the new Raffi flagship in Cambridge (or their other location in Waterloo). I've had good experiences at both.
