Banksy artwork self-destructs right after $1.4 million sale.

At least that other million you could drink lol

Hmm, why is there a power cord on the frame and what are these razor blades for on the bottom..... It must be a part of the art, just plug it in!

I just read that on the DM, very cool trick, don't know if Sotheby's are in on it or if the price now doubles, but it made me smile as in this market of ever increasing prices detached from all reality, and the high art market is the worst culprit of all, it is apt.

Word is that Banksy was there to set it off. A guy in black and with sunnies scuffled with security getting out just after it went off.

The whole thing was great! Crowd was shocked and horrified. Art work doubled in price. Imagine your piece of art work doubling in price within 3 minutes of the gavel.

I am liking this artist!

Next, the shredded version hits the auction block and some fool pays $2 million. Then, *it* mysteriously shreds itself into even smaller pieces. Fast forward to sale number five where some buffoon pays $16 million for confetti, then makes a confetti bomb and puts it in someone’s Maybach.

Money is being "earned" much too easily.

seems like a pretty artistic way of making a statement on the arbitrary value we put on things.

Sort of like the buddhist monks that make those elaborate works of sand art, and as soon as its done they destroy it as everything material is temporary.
