I prefer to find the reason for the problem and not treat the symptom. I was having heartburn a lot, even hours after eating. I learned about GERD and low stomach acid. Too much carbs. I cut out the sugary drinks and almost all carbs. I LOVE PASTA AND BREAD, but Heartburn GONE. Also gave up my beloved SWEET TEA! Don't treat the symptom!

Yeah had GERD as well, lost a bit of weight and all gone. Might not work for everyone, Im usually pretty lean and picked up 20lbs, it was enough to cause it. Doc gave me a once a day pill I'll have to check the name, it helped.. but losing the 20lbs got rid of it completely

X2 on treating the cause before the symptoms. I was on prescription Nexium for 2 years and think it caused a lot of ancillary problems. I went off of H2 blockers (except for when I know I will be indulging heavily in wine and tomato sauces) and treat it symptomatically now. Feel better.

Consider elevating your head at night whether by a pillow or elevating bed. HUGE difference for me.

Another thing to try is to drink a some water after the meal. Maybe even a lot. Like a liter or two. I was getting the heartburn after eating a lot of avocado and discovered that trick with water.
Don’t overdo it with the water either but water is the most natural thing to consume.
Mind you not cola or beer or anything but just water.

Again, depends on the cause. For me, with low stomach acid, any liquid in large amounts is bad. You end up diluting the acid, which perpetuates the problem I was having.
