Rolex gave us a very clear and simple number system for distinguishing different models. Why isn't that good enough? I'm not a fan of nicknames.

im already envisioning fights with my kids teachers when they have spelling tests when we move back to the states. The British invented English so however they spell it is correct, but im sure the kids will get it marked wrong anyway.

I can't tell you why it's not good enough and honestly I don't care about nicknames one way or the other. but that said, almost every time I've been in an Authorized Dealer and asked about a BLNR, I get a blank look followed by "what!?". I repeat, "116710 BLNR", again no response. Then I say "the black and blue bezel GMT", and sure enough the response is "oh the batman?"

to me its the overuse of nicknames and creating one is expected for all watches and its not organic anymore. I know as a kid i didn't get to pick my nickname it just evolved, and it has stuck even to this day (no im not telling what it is

). This need to name your watch is the part i dont like

FWIW batman to me is yellow and black anyway. that's the batman i grew up with and i still have a t shirt around somewhere with those colors.

I agree with that all around. While I'm indifferent, I think it's kind of silly to go out of your way to create one.

I don't like calling the BLNR Batman, but for some reason I've warmed up to Hulk.
